Want to give it 4.5 here

Just got back from a week at Galley Bay. The very few cons are located below, but the pros far outweigh. Ok, so this is an all-inclusive resort. We stayed a week--our first visit. The setting is gorgeous, and is just 25 mins or so from the airport. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and landscaped. Our room (and I believe all the accommodations) are right on their beach. The beach is about .75 mile long, and is not shared with other residences or resorts. Our room was spacious and beautiful. Note: this resort has partial exposure to the Atlantic, so the ocean swells can be somewhat intense. We loved the sound of the waves at night. If you are looking for a lot of water sport or snorkeling, the surf can be somewhat intense depending on the weather. Despite some challenging weather the week of our visit, we were able to hobie cat and snorkel, and were able to swim every day. The snorkeling at the north end of the beach is AWESOME if you get calmish waters and visibility. The snorkeling right off the beach at the north end of the Galley Bay beach was as good or better than our Cades Reef snorkeling excursion. The food: we loved it. The swordfish was as good or better than we ever had, The Sea Grape is where you will have most breakfasts. Lunch can be there or from the Barefoot Grill. Our fave, was the Gauguin Restaurant. You will have to make reservations there, but WELL worth that effort. The best part: the hospitality and staff. A sizable number of the guests we met are "repeaters", and for good reason--the staff at Galley Bay is simply awesome. They extend sincere hospitality, with a generosity that is warm and overwhelming. SPECIAL THANKS TO TROYA AND MAGDALIN IN SEA GRAPE, AND TAMYSYN IN GUEST SERVICES FOR THEIR EXCELLENT HOSPITALITY. Cons: few. Pass on Ismay, the premium restaurant. The basic menus at Sea Grape and Gauguin are fine (go to Gauguin as often as you can while there, charming!). We will be a 'repeater'. Thanks guys. K

honeymoon packages are a scam!

we recently purchased a honeymoon package as a wedding gift for our friends who were staying here on their honeymoon. The package was called pampered and indulged and was $620. The package was supposed to include a card from us in the morning then breakfast in bed, champagne, a couples massage, facial/manicure or pedicure, and then spa products. When we didn't hear from our friends I got a little worried and called the hotel to confirm they received it, the woman on the phone told me to "hold on" and then started yelling at someone next to her asking about the gift. She then came back on the line and told me they received it. I was a little worried since the conversation seemed so unprofessional, but I hoped my friends got the gift. When our friends returned a week later we asked if they had received our gift. They responded with surprise and said no, what gift? After a long and confusing conversation we determined that the only item they received was a massage, but that the hotel said it was complimentary as part of them staying there on their honeymoon. They never received our card, breakfast, the facials, or the spa products. I was so embarrassed and told them I would get them another gift and call the hotel. When I called to alert them of the problem and ask for a refund, I expected them to just apologize for the mix-up and immediately refund me, but instead they kept transferring me to different departments and saying they would start an "investigation". When I called a few days later they told me my friends did receive the gift and that they chose to not receive the other services. When I started getting upset and saying how crazy that was and how I wanted my money returned to me, the woman put the phone down and then started mimicking me to the person next to her. I was so shocked. They refused to let me speak to a manager and then hung up on me. I have never experienced service like this at a hotel before. My fiance and I are actually planning our own honeymoon now and we were originally going to look at this resort, but after this experience there is no way I would ever stay there or recommend any friends stay there and deal with this service.
