Grounds are Beautiful but Rooms Needs Updating

Construction is underway abutting the hotel - stay away from the East Wing especially 1st and 2nd floors - you will not be able to use your patio due to noise and dust. Our room in the east wing was outdated and musty smelling. To get to the lobby we had to walk a huge circle which seemed like a fire hazard. As we had Jet Blue VIP vouchers (you might be able to get vouchers if booked directly with the hotel) we upgraded to a much nicer, quieter room with a wonderful view. Nice beach but hard to find a spot as chairs were already taken by 9am! The shoreline is greatly eroded. We did not swim - water looked rough there were red/yellow flags everyday. Most of the staff is incredible at the Melia going out of their way to make you happy like Stephanie fishing out a few extra mushrooms. Wish I had cash on me. Overall food at the Market Place was surprisingly tasty - the corn was to die for and at the pasta station, the pasta is done to your liking. BIG THANK YOU! to Ms. Wright, Lamont and Roland at Angus Steakhouse for superb service. Lamont had us pegged as soon as we sat down. He was attentive and fulfilled all of our request. I highly recommend eating at the steakhouse even though you pay extra. The food is tasty especially the Sea Bass which was oh so succulent. Having a voucher helped. Take advantage of free visit to Balmoral Island. With Melia bracelet, water taxi is free and you can go as many times as you wish. The beach and water at Balmoral was exquisite - warm with little to no waves. Be advised you would have to pay for everything on the island - food, dolphin/stingray encounter/swim with pigs. Probably best to book these ahead of time. Be warn, you are not allowed to take photos at the dolphin encounter but you can buy photos which cost way more than the price of the encounter! Ridiculous! Exploring downtown Nassau from Melia was easy. The #10 bus (cost $1.25/each one-way) is right outside the hotel. If you don't like crowds avoid Wednesday (there were 5 cruise ships in port!). We also took the bus to explore Arawak Cay Fish Fry before taking it back to the hotel. If you plan to visit Arawak Cay by bus I recommend to go during the day. Every night after dinner we took a short stroll to Baha Mar next door where we enjoyed the casino and nightly water fountain show. Be warn, during the day security would not let you enter the Baha Mar property from the beach - not even to check out the food service trailers - you have to enter through the front lobby. Makes no sense to me.

Excellent little gem!

Our family frequently visits Nassau/Paradise Island - we normally stay at Atlantis with the kids and when it's just the hubby and I, Sandals. With that being said, we wanted to try a new place with the kids and my mother-in-law that can't walk like you need to at Atlantis. We have stayed at a Melia resort before so took a chance here. After we booked, I read some reviews and was a bit nervous but we went ahead and set off. We did the "Level" package and had a fabulous time!! We were on the 9th floor and overlooked the beautiful turquoise waters. Staff was amazing - HUGE shout out to Shareta, Nat, and Bendji for their STELLAR service. There was lots to do with the kids and for the mother in law, food was great for the most part. We made more beautiful memories at this resort and would definitely stay here again. The only ehh thing I have to say about our experience this time around was we did take the boat over to the island and the time was less than great. It's Balmoral Island - Sandals owns and operates the other half (top notch). Whoever runs this side, could use a little training in both management and customer service. Note - you also share this half of the island with the cruisers and Baha Mar guests so it is a hot mess until around 3 pm. The half of this island is not ran by Melia. It was such a great experience and we would stay here again! Maybe make it a Thanksgiving tradition at the Melia! <3
