Itinerary Breakdown

Your first stop on this suggested itinerary will be Bali, probably Indonesia's most famous island destination. We recommend spending at least 5 nights here to enjoy beach days, soak up the spirituality and culture of the local people and discover the art markets and rice terraces of Ubud.

Points of Interest

From Bali you can either take a short flight (around 35 minutes) or a speedboat (around 2 hours) to Lombok. This sleepy island is the ultimate retreat for a bit of rest and relaxation, almost like taking a step back in time. Hotels on Lombok are generally boutique style, and perfect for couples seeking tranquility. Aside from the beaches, Lombok also has some amazing inland scenery and plenty of activities on offer including trekking Mount Rinjani National Park, spending the day exploring Sendang Gile Waterfalls or simply visiting one of the traditional Sasak villages which have remained unchanged for centuries.

Points of Interest

After spending some days relaxing on Lombok, our final suggestion are the tiny, vehicle-free Gili Islands. Only 15 minutes away by speedboat these tiny islands with their rustic charm are perfect for days spent snorkelling or diving and evenings spent enjoying a local beer or two with your toes in the sand at one of the many beach bars. Spend up to 4 nights here before taking the speedboat back to Bali (around 2 hours) and your onwards flight.

The beautiful island of Bali offers blissful beaches, stunning rice terraces, jungles, markets, temples and so much more. We recommend spending a minimum of four days here to allow enough time to relax on the beaches, explore inland around the cultural town of Ubud and tick off some of the islands key temples such as Tanah Lot and Pura Ulun Danu Beratan.

From Bali you can reach Lombok either by short flight (around 30 minutes) or by fast boat which takes around two hours. Lombok is Bali's much quieter neighbour and the contrast between the two islands makes them well worth combining together. Again we suggest spending around four days here to truly relax and unwind as you make the most of the sleepy island life. You might like to visit a traditional Sasak village where the locals live in simple houses made from mud and clay and sell their homemade crafts to earn a living. If you're feeling active you could also arrange to hike to the summit of Mount Rinjani or for something a little less strenuous there are some beautiful waterfalls on the island that you can explore.

Gili Islands

After spending some time in Lombok we suggest taking the 15 minute speedboat journey to the Gili Islands. These three tiny islands have a rustic and quirky vibe, coral beaches and excellent diving and snorkelling. There are no motorised vehicles so the only methods of transport are cidomo (a traditional horse and cart), bicycle or on foot. Days in the Gili Islands are all about relaxing on the beach or enjoying the colourful marine life while evenings centre around fresh seafood BBQ dinners and drinks. Gili Trawangan has quite lively nightlife whereas Gili Meno is more sedate perfect for a quiet holiday or honeymoon. We recommend four days in the Gili Islands as it will be hard to tear yourself away from the crystal clear waters and white coral beaches.
