Quirky little hotel

Croydon UK

Having recently stayed at this small hotel (only 24 rooms) I now understand why it has such differing reviews, as it has features/characteristics that appeal to certain profiles of travellers who then become loyal regulars, but do not have the same attraction to other guests who may prefer the facilities of a larger international resort. Summary: Location : 1 minute walk to Pebbles/Brownes beach. Beautiful sands with gentle waters of the west coast Carlisle bay, (rather than the rougher surf on the south coast which is only a few hundred yards away). Watching the swimming of the horses in the sea at 6:30 in the morning is a peaceful joy.Bridgetown is a 20 minute walk along the beach. The local buses are always available to go in the other direction down the south coast to Oistins. The hotel's pool area is never busy and sunloungers are always available. The rooms are a little basic although they do have TV and a very good aircon. The standard rooms look out to a car park so it is better to ask for a courtyard or poolside one.In this respect it is only a 3 star facility. WiFi is only available in the lobby area and this does not suit some guests, however if you are on holiday why not take a break and cut yourself off. Food: Excellent. Other reviews have covered this but for such a small hotel it is remarkable how they have the choice and quality every night. Drinks: as in other Caribbean resorts, the main focus is on cocktails and spirit/mixer combinations so don't expect variety of choice in wines but their house red/white/rose wines are palatable. Service: during our stay there, the service from the staff in reception, restaurant and bar was always prompt and helpful, We could not find fault. The guest profile is primarily British couples but mixed with other European, local and North American. Given the right deal, I would definitely stay again.

It's ok if your not looking for friendly helpful staff

Hawkhurst, England, United Kingdom

Island inn ,all inclusive. What can I say. This holiday was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. This hotel is close to Pebbles beach, but we went there once never again. Why? I hear you ask well if you saw used condoms , bottle top caps and discarded drinks and rubbish would you go again? Not my idea of a relaxing beautiful Barbados beach! Now the hotel. In the menu there is a discription of the hotel saying it's been recently refeburished . I find this hard to believe as curtains in our room we're looking shabby, broken eyelets where pole goes through top of curtains. Furniture is a mish mash . Had to ask for remote control to have new batteries. Lighting in room not bright enough , lamps and shades were tatty. There is a Hair dryer, kettle, tea n coffee. No mini bar/ fridge or water. You ask for water at the bar. Double bed is two single mattresses. Quite comfortable. Spare blanket if needed. Bathroom, wow great size. Clothes hanging space. Iron and ironing board. Safe. Shower over bath with shower curtain. Toilet seat doesn't fit the toilet. Bathroom door sticks to the floor and you have to push n pull it harshly to open and close. Out side room there is a court yard with a small swimming pool , sun loungers packed into a small area. Sun loungers are old and falling apart along with rattan tables. Entertaining area has a seated indoor area with tv leading on to another court yard with seating area and umbrellas. Which leads to the bar and a wraparound restaurant. All very nice when sun is shining but when it rains not so good. Although there are two other lounges , which didn't get used very often while we were there. Wifi is only available in court yard ,bar , lounges and reception areas. No wifi in rooms. A shame in this day and age. It is quite and also a far distance to any proper shops. Also opening times are very different to what you would expect. Now the staff. It's so sad that while we were there only 3 members of staff seemed genuine and helpful and happy. Sharon R on reception, she was so very helpful and happy and friendly. Then there was Earl the elderly bar tender. Friendly, helpful and full of information. Last but not least there is a young girl ( I'm sorry I can't remember her name) always cheerful and happy too . The manageress , well I'm sorry to say she made my husband feel so bad about not having trousers that we didn't have dinner on our first night which was a Saturday. Ok it was an over sight on our part . But to make him feel so uncomfortable was not right. We went into Bridgetown, a half hour walk away and spent our first full morning trying to find a pair of acceptable trousers. That night we had dinner, The following night on going to dinner there were other gentlemen wearing smart dress short identical to my husbands, they were allowed to have dinner without any confrontation. If this is a rule then it must be followed through. Men wore jeans and long shorts and even a lady wore shorts. We were clearly told it was not acceptable at this hotel. My hubby wore his £90 trousers every night for dinner even when others clearly didn't. The food was great, we were waited on every meal time. Breakfast is buffet style, consisting of cook breakfast, cereal, fruit, yoghurts , cold meat and cheese and pastries and toast. Juice , tea or coffee. Lunch and evening meal A choice of starter, main meal including vegetarian and pudding. Water and a choice of red or white wine. Or something different if you should wish. I can not say or find any thing negative to put here regarding the food . Staff on the other hand could smile and be a little happier to serve us etc. Checking out was easy Sharon R checked us out in her usual happy and friendly manor.
