Archibald is a Legend.

Hertford, United Kingdom

I will come to the title shortly. Yes Sandals is set in beautiful grounds with a beautiful beach. However our first room was supposed to be a sea view. It was not, it was a partial at best in one of the blocks furthest away from the beach.... Raised with butler who said this was a common problem regarding description of view and that we should book direct with sandals......An email to a director in uk and we were moved to a more appropriate room within 24 hrs. The next room had a beautiful view but we were disturbed for a couple of days/nights with the noise from the sky pool pump. We were 2 floors down and it was very loud. Having raised with a butler supervisor Jane the timings of the pump in use was changed and we were no longer disturbed, so thank you Jane. Yes Sandals has some very nice restaurants, with Chi and Bombay our favourites with 4 visits each in 3 weeks. Crispy belly pork buns and sweet and sour prawns (need to ask) are fantastic. Lamp chops from Bombay some of the best I have had anywhere! However Sandals is let down by some of its staff. Some staff are very nice and some are extremely rude. Now that Sandals is closed for a while I hope it will get rid of the rude, ignorant staff that very nearly spoilt our holiday. Yes I am talking about Nicolette and the tall chap with scary eyes who 'work' at the bowling alley. You two are rudest individuals I have ever come across. So beware people these two have absolutely no people skills Food overall was good, not sure about 5 star gourmet but nice. We stayed 3 weeks and did not get bored. In addition to dishes already mentioned, lamb kebab and veg Risotto from Neptunes. Burger and fish n chips from the pub and also the pork chop for our anniversary meal at Neptunes. We had 4 Butlers over the 3 weeks. Kashida and Sade were very nice and even cooked us a lunch which was very much appreciated. Shakira took over from Kashida in our last week. Very friendly and made sure we were topped up with drink throughout the day. Then there is Archibald Cox. I cannot speak highly enough about this man. Nothing is to much and he is always super friendly. If it had not been for Archibald I would have come home early because of the rude staff. If there was an issue Archibald would sort it. He arranged our night out at Tides which was very nice indeed. If we wanted anything Archibald would get it including port and some very tasty pot roast pork. We were very lucky to have him as one of our butlers and Sandals you need to realise your company is very lucky to have him working for you. We left just as COVID 19 was kicking in and I was glad to be going home. But looking back I did enjoy my time despite the rude staff. I would go back for the beauty of the place, nice restaurants and Archibald and Co. However I would need some strong reassuranceses that the rude individuals like Nicolette and her tall mate were gone. Some other helpful staff were Giuseppe from Portafino who cooked me dish not on the menu and dealt with another rude member of staff. Jane and Demar, butler supervisors and every cleaner and gardener I met as they to were very friendly. I hope the blasted virus goes soon so the world can get back to normal.

Showed up well in strange times

England

This review will not be typical as the week we were there things were slowing down due to the virus outbreak. Despite knowing they would be laid off the next week the staff remained polite, professional and committed to keeping our holiday enjoyable. Anna (restaurant greeter) was a prime example of them being well trained. The room was clean and well equipped, the facilities are great, the beach is great. Enjoyed the bowling alley and beer bar. Food was good in all 7 restaurants that we tried and no problems booking. Entertainments team did their best to keep us occupied. Good selection of drinks - 6 house wines, basic spirits in the room, premium spirits in the bars, Banks beer everywhere. There was plenty of space and lots of loungers with shade but that could be different if the resort was full. Several swimming pools. One negative was the so-called ocean view from our room - see the picture. Just select the room facilities you want - it doesn't matter whether you are in the "Royal" part or not as you can't see the join between the two resorts. The club sandals concierge facility was good; having a butler is not necessary as we wouldn't want to be followed around.
