Great place, some improvements required

Barnstaple, United Kingdom

When arrived staff very polite, was given a tour of site on way to our room, but no arrival drinks provided, also no drinks at the meeting. Room very clean and towels where changed most day, sometimes took our hand towels and did not replace them, had to phone reception and they were replace asap. Food was high standard, but had an issue on one meal but management nipped it in the bud and compensated us accordingly. Afternoon tea was a bit hit and miss, we were given jam sandwiches, but when complained staff changed them for ham and cheese, but no afternoon tea on a cake stand which they state. Majority of staff made you feel welcome, which includes the little pregnant lady, the beach staff and all management, unfortunately some staff mainly waiting staff had a face like a slapped backside. Hotel was well situated to beach and outside location. Amenities on site, including gym was very good, traders on beach were a pain especially drug dealing was high and fully open to guests, the most times l was approached in one day for drugs was four times, it gets a little tiring after a while, Security could do with stepping up. Overall a good hotel but needs to amend the above issues.

Dream Wedding & Honeymoon at Sea Breeze Beach House

Ballyvourney, Ireland

Where do I even begin?? Travelling for such a big occasion can be daunting, and trust me when I say I did my fair share of scouring reviews... so my apologies if this is a bit lengthy. I want to be sure that I cover everything, especially regarding getting married on location and the details placed into our special day! We booked through a travel agent in Dublin and she assured us we would fall in love with the property and staff and boy are we glad we took her advice to book our wedding and honeymoon at Sea Breeze! Our experience from before we even landed in beautiful Barbados until the time we left was nothing below top notch! When we arrived we were greeted by a fantastic young man, Rakeem and he offered us a signature Rum Punch that was delicious! We were shown the property and taken to our room. We stayed in a classic Ocean front room and it was beyond our expectations! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in and the views were something from a movie! The decor was very chic and the bathroom a good size! We actually didn't think the rooms could be any nicer until our guests checked in. We booked them into a four bedroom apartment which was in the Mahogany building, so they were luxury rooms. They were unbelievable and we will definitely be staying in one of the luxury rooms when we return! All of our guests were delighted with their rooms! Even my mother-in-law was a bit hesitant about having a destination wedding, but she was absolutely floored with the service and the resort that she cannot stop raving about it and how she will be back! On site there are 3 pools and always available beach front loungers. The pools are were very nice and clean and each had their own different characteristics, such as the lounger lap pool. It was so nice to lay in the water loungers and have one of the enthusiastic staff members bring you a cold cocktail! We never had an issue with getting a lounger by the other two pools either, but we were there the first two weeks of September, so I believe tourism had began to slow down for the year. With that being said... September is supposedly "rainy" season in Barbados. In the 12 days we were there... we saw 10 minutes of rain one night and it stopped as soon as it began and the party continued! Each day there were plenty of activities on-site and the staff always kept a smile on your face! We really enjoyed the rum tasting on Tuesday, Bingo, aqua aerobics, the Sunday beach BBQ and the nightly entertainment. They didn't play too late, but it's not a party resort if that is what you are looking for. It was much quieter and relaxed, and that is certainly what you will do, relax! And while the music may end, the lobby bar served until 1 if you did want to stay up later and hang out! Big shout out to the water sports team as well and their services! We made use of the hoby cat and snorkels and absolutely loved it! The hoby cat was very cool! We also took the kayaks down to the Oistins pier and saw 5 turtles along the way! The jet skiis are not included, but highly recommended! Just say it to the watersports staff and they have one there in no time! Lots of fun out on the waves! Hubby even did it twice! Two of our guests were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, so after check in Shawn from guest services (we'll get on to Shawn in a bit) escorted my now husband and our two friends to their room where he surprised them will a chilled bottle of sparkling wine and a lovely note wishing them a happy anniversary! He popped the bottle and poured us all a glass and it was just such a special added bonus of their hospitality! Shawn... he is the MAN! One of the coolest guys we've met in a long time! So friendly and knowledgeable and while if you're caught down by the lounge pool minutes before he begins aqua aerobics and he makes you do it...you'll still thank him for the fun work out! And if you try to hide, he knows your name so he will call out for you and find you! He was so helpful with EVERYTHING and made our trip so much more special! Another huge shout out would be to our new friend Ramal. He is such an asset to the staff of Sea Breeze House and it should not go unnoticed. We wandered down to the Rum Shack for a drink and had a chat and more than a few chats with Ramal. We left and headed for dinner. The next day, we were both greeted by our first names and it was just so impressive and made us feel at home. He remembered our guests names as well when they arrived and he always put the biggest smile on your face when you saw him coming! All of the staff were amazing and a few more to recognise, while it's not all, Peggy, Roger, Steve, Sharon, Marco (front desk), Shanika, Carlyle, Cothsbert, Sheree, Achim, Chad, Tharel, Jeffrey, Rodney, David G., Mya and so many more! Big thanks to everyone for making us feel so special! So, the food... it was tasty and tempting and plentiful! The breakfast and lunch buffets were devine and the food was just so delicious! In the evenings, there were 3 restaurants with 2 being open on a given night. We unfortunately did not get the opportunity to eat in the Currelean, but we were offsite one night it was open, had our wedding meal another night, a private beach picnic one nght and skipped breakfast the other time so we weren't able to book. My parents did eat there and just raved about it! The Aqua Terra was my favourite! The ambiance and setting was so beautiful and Rodney the manager goes above and beyond to make sure you are tended to! The food in the Mahogany was very delicious too! There is also a little a la cart restaurant called the Flying Fish that is open from 1230-5/6 that you can order food anytime! The fish cakes and samosas come highly recommended. On Sunday there was a beach BBQ where they set up the tables on the beach! It was so good and fun. We were so lucky to experience over 100 turtle hatchlings as well come out of one of the nests they were buried in! What an experience! The staff from the turtle rescue came out and they were so professional and it was just amazing to witness! There were always local Artisans on site as well during the day selling beautiful jewelry and trinkets. (This is not to be confused with the locals that walk up and down the beach selling stuff as well). There was a lovely departure lounge that you could utilise after checkout to shower, etc or you could request a late checkout where they charge per hour so you could make it to suit your departure if available. Now, onto the wedding! This was hard to research because there wasn't much information on anyone that had been married there and I had no idea what to expect...but let's just say it far exceeded ANY expectations we had! Before we even knew it, Matthew and Debbie were on the ball from the very start. They had every last detail planned for us before we even got there. Our only "stress" was picking the theme colour, our flower colour and the flavour of our cake. Additionally we picked the ceremony location and the dinner location. It seemed so effortless by them and they made the day so amazing! We had a meeting with them a few days before the ceremony and we went over every little detail again, then Matthew drove us to the Office of the Minister were we were granted our license to sign on the day. After getting back in the car, there was a bottle of bubbly waiting for us and it was just so nice! The day itself was just so breathtaking! We decided to get married on the sunset deck and it was decorated beautifully! It actually went perfect and their attention to detail was not unnoticed. Even down to Debbie dabbing the sweat off my brow so I wouldn't be shiny in our photographs, ha! The heat was unbelievable, but hey.. we signed up for that! We had Steve Cumberbatch taking our photos and he was unreal! That'll be another review in it's entirety! He was top class! While the day was perfect, there was only a few very small minor blips. Certainly nothing that took away from the day or that anyone even noticed! The main one was that my hair had fallen out nearly half way through the pictures, so that was no fault of Sea Breeze or their staff. But they wanted to make up for it since we did pay a good amount for hair and makeup and Debbie and Matthew went above and beyond to do so! They made us continue to feel extra special by treating us to a romantic picnic on the beach on one of the following days! Shawn and some of the staff did a tremendous job setting up the most beautiful setting of a blanket with large pillows, umbrella, candles and special design in the sand lined with shells for the walk way down! It was so special and Shawn really outdid himself serving us! We watched the sunset and listened to music and it just couldn't have been better! Got off track there, so the night of the wedding we went down to the beach for photographs while our guests had cocktails in the bar. We had a small party so we decided to have dinner on the Gazebo. It was beautifully set and the weather was perfect! Highly suggested if you have a small number guests! The Thursday evening before wedding, we treated our guests and hired a private luxury catamaran cruise. This was through Silver Moon. It is highly highly recommended and you swim with sea turtles, have a beautiful meal and just relax out on the open water while watching the sunset! We loved it so much, after our guests left, we went and did another catamaran tour with Tiami. And this was all booked through our lovely Shawn. He really is the man when it comes to making sure you get to do everything you want! I could go on and on and I will rave about this trip for the rest of our lives! Thanks to Sea Breeze for making our wedding and stay so amazing! Don't believe the bad reviews, because everything was perfect! They're on Island Time and you should get on it too! It's too beautiful to not take life slow and soak it all in...especially with a rum punch in your hand! Thanks for coming to my Ted talk! HA! :)
