The Best of Brazil & The Amazon

This is a fantastic 12 day round trip of Brazil visiting the most amazing destinations the country has to offer. Visit the iconic city of Rio de Janeiro with its Christ the Redeemer statue and the famous Copacabana beach, the magnificent Iguazu waterfalls which are one of the most impressive sights on the continent, then travel to the mighty Amazon - 'the lungs of the planet'.  Visit local tribes, walk through rich jungle and much more, before flying to the coast and finishing in the historic and colourful city of Salvador.

Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, transfer to your hotel where you will be staying for the next three nights. Rio is without a doubt one of the world's most spectacular metropolises. Stretched between forested mountains and the sparkling Atlantic, it is a city of long golden beaches and an exuberant cultural life.

Start this morning with a city tour taking in the most important sights of Rio. Board a cog-train at the Cosme Velho Station for a ride through Tijuca Forest up Corcovado Mountain. Disembark at the top of Corcovado and then proceed up the steps that lead to the top lookout where the towering statue of Christ the Redeemer stands. After appreciating the breathtaking view unfolding below the tour proceeds passing by Rio's world famous beaches to the Urca District to board a cable car for a two-staged ascent up to the famous Sugar Loaf Mountain. Then coming down drive along Guanabara Bay and Flamengo Park to the downtown area. Pass by the financial and business centre and other attractions such as the Candelaria Church, Saint Sebastian Cathedral and Lapa Arches. Stop at Confeitaria Colombo, a restaurant which opened in 1894 and part of Brazilian history. You will continue the drive until you reach the Sambadrome, site of Rio's famous Carnival parade.

Spend a full day at leisure discovering the sights and sounds of Rio de Janeiro.

Optional tours can be booked at an additional cost. These include a full day tour to Petropolis where you take a scenic drive up Serra dos Orgaos Range across the Atlantic Forest's lush vegetation through mountains and valleys as far as 850m high Petropolis. Visit  the Summer Palace and the Cathedral, see Crystal Palace, Santos Dumont's House, old mansions and charming squares. A half a day tour to Olympic Boulevard including the Museum of Tomorrow and the Rio Art Museum, or a Rio by Night show in the evening where you will see a wonderful display of Brazilian folklore and Carnival.

Transfer to the airport for your onwards flight to Iguazu. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for check in. Later in the day you will visit the Brazilian side of the falls. Your tour leaves from the hotel by coach, crossing Iguazu National Park as far as the Brazilian Falls. Walk along the paths following cascades and along the catwalk that leads very close to the bottom of the Devil's Throat to enjoy magnificent views.

Visit the Argentinean side of the falls today. Leaving from your hotel on the Brazilian side for a drive and a quick customs check, crossing the Tancredo Neves Bridge over the Iguazu River, which forms the border between Argentina and Brazil. Once in Argentina, your tour takes a scenic highway up the Argentinean Iguazu National Park. Stopping at the Visitors' Centre and proceeding from there to the Superior Circuit, the up-river cascades, to the Inferior Circuit, the down-river falls and then takes the Ecological Jungle train that leads to and from the most impressive observation point of the falls - The Devil's Throat.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Manaus, which is the capital of the Amazonas State and the hub of the whole  Amazon region. On arrival you will check in and if times permits, depending on your flight times, then you have the option to book a Half Day Ecological Tour - Fauna and Flora at the Bosque da Ciencia (Amazonas National Research Institute).

Today you will transfer to the pier to start the Amazon Ecopark Lodge experience. The lodge is located Rio Taruma which is in the middle of the Amazon Forest. You can spend the day on various excursions exploring over 6 miles of jungle trails by foot or canoe. Enjoy lunch and dinner today at the Lodge.

You will take a double deck boat that will go down the Negro River navigating along the short of the City of Manaus, allowing you to enjoy views of the Amazonas Theatre, the Port of Manaus, the Customs and the interesting stilt houses. You will see all this en route to The Meeting of the Waters, a spectacular merge of the Negro and Solimoes Rivers.

After breakfast transfer back to Manaus. During a panoramic city tour you will see the main sights of Manaus, such as the old part of Manaus that is a reminder from the rubber boom of the end of the last century, the São Sebastião Square, the customs office pre-fabricated in Liverpool and shipped to Manaus almost 100 years ago, the clock tower (called little Big Ben), the Matriz Square, Cathedral and the Municipal Market. You will also make a photo stop at the Opera House built almost entirely from European materials during the rubber boom and inaugurated in 1896.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Salvador da Bahia, upon arrival you will be picked up and transfered to the hotel.

The focus of the historical city tour will be on the city sites related to the colonial Brazil and Afro-Brazilian history, taking advantage of Pelourinho being the greatest baroque neighborhood outside Europe, declared by UNESCO a world heritage site. If you're a history buff, there are lots of centuries-old buildings churches and even museums to tour. You will have the chance to see a little of the new and the old city.

In addition to many beautiful churches, and buildings, the promenade will have its end at Terreiro de Jesus square, by visiting the San Francisco church – with its gold leafed interior and Jacaranda wood furniture. As an extension of this tour, you will have the option to have lunch in a typical Bahia cuisine restaurant.

Enjoy regional Bahia food at a typical restaurant followed by a colourful dance and music show presenting Bahia’s rich Afro-Brazilian culture.
