Siem Reap Holidays

Siem Reap is mostly renowned as a gateway to the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat, but this small city has a whole bounty of other charms. As well as the spectacular Angkor complex, you’ll discover thousands of hidden temples, remarkable floating villages, bustling markets and lush national parks during your holiday in Siem Reap.

One of the largest religious monuments in the world, Angkor Wat was once the thriving heart of a grand ancient civilisation - up there with the most incredible architectural feats in the world. Visit Angkor Wat at sunrise for golden light, fewer visitors and a cooler time of day to explore.

Discover Cambodia’s rich heritage in Siem Reap

You could spend your entire Siem Reap holiday roaming from temple to temple; like parts of Angkor Wat, many of which have been reclaimed by nature’s green tendrils. There’s the forest-clocked Sambor Prei Kuk; vast and isolated Preah Khan of Kompong Svay; and the tiered-pyramid of Koh Ker located deep in the Cambodian jungle. Enjoy a lovely day trip at Phnom Kulen National Park, where you can climb to the majestic reclining Buddha perched on the mountaintop outside Phnom Kulen Temple. Alternatively, you can swim at the three-tiered waterfall and contemplate the famous River of 1000 Lingas (1000 stone sculptures carved into the river bed).

Experience local Cambodian life at the extraordinary floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake - the schools, markets and churches of Chong Kneas are all anchored on rafts in the middle of the enormous lake, or perched on stilts at Kompong Phluk. Nearby, spot the dance of countless birds at Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary.

Siem Reap’s cultural scene offers everything from performances at the Circus Phare, and art and sculptures at Theam’s House Gallery, to the traditional artisans of Angkor Silk Farm. For your evenings, there’s an array of world-class restaurants, hip bars and music venues to explore. Excited? Begin planning your Siem Reap travel with us today.

From finding serenity at crumbling ancient temples to getting lost in vibrant markets, there’s much to explore in Cambodia. Pair your Siem Reap travel with adventures elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

The average length of time is three days, but this is a vast temple complex spread over almost 400 square miles so you can also purchase seven day passes if you wish to go a little more in depth. The main and most famous temple is of course Angkor Wat but you should definitely also visit Angkor Thom, Ta Phrom, Banteay Srei and the Bayon Temples.

Siem Reap is a charming town with a lovely night market and flourishing dining scene. On an evening it is definitely worth having a wander around the night market followed by a nice meal and perhaps a nightcap at one of the lively bars on pub street. The Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary near Tonle Sap Lake is also worth a visit.
