Great Weekend Stay!

Toronto, Canada

We were looking for a location to have a small family gathering (of 8 people) to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary for a weekend. After extensive research, we decided on Elmhirst. We wanted a place that could accommodate all of us in one cottage, has a restaurant on site, has lots of activities, is on the water, and is low-key. Elmhirst fit the bill! We were not disappointed and really enjoyed our stay here. The lady who checked us in and out was lovely and the process was fast & efficient. We spent the extra money for the “Freespirit” cottage and were so glad we did! It was amazing! It was so cozy and tastefully decorated and had 3 bathrooms! (The pictures on the website don’t do it justice.) The sleigh ride on Saturday was well worth it as we learned about the family history and came to appreciate the operation of the resort. It was a great tour of the grounds. We skated on the pond, hiked the trails on site, spent time in the pool… All in all, it was a great weekend and everyone in our party loved the location that was chosen to celebrate our parents 50th anniversary. Our only regret was that we didn’t try one of the restaurants. (We planned to but had brought too much of our own food.) This is a great place to go for a getaway! Recommended! A few minor negatives: 1) At one point we stopped by the front desk to ask a few questions and the person there at the time was quite snarky. When you’re the face of the business, be pleasant to your paying guests. 😊 2) A day after checking out I had to inquire about why the pre-authorization of $300 for damages wasn’t released off my credit card. I thought it was odd it took over 24 hours. Usually pre-authorizations are released pretty quickly upon check-out.

Great weekend getaway

My partner and I decided to treat ourselves to a little birthday getaway at Elmhirst. We had the most amazing time. The food was great (especially Sunday brunch - wear your fat pants!), the activities were fun (do the wagon ride... it’s a great way to see the whole property), and the cottages were very comfy (ours had a wood burning fireplace- bonus!). The real asset is the staff. Very friendly and helpful. It’s a family run resort and you can tell. They take pride in their service and that makes all the difference. If you visit Elmhirst don’t forget to visit the spa. Martina is the owner and an absolute gem! So warm and accommodating. Can’t say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back!
