Fiestas Patrias
Join in the Chilean celebrations of Fiestas Patrias (Independence Day), which involves a two day celebration to commemorate the day Chile became independent. Pastel de Choclo
Dig into the delicious dish that is known as Pastel de Choclo. This flavoursome traditional dish is very popular in Chile and consists of a beef and corn casserole. It tastes like a shepherd’s pie, however the Pastel de Choclo is a little different as it contains beef, caramelised onions, raisins, olives, roasted chicken and is topped with a layer of creamed choclo corn.

Taste some of the Chilean wine, you won’t be disappointed. Attend a wine tasting tour or ask your waiter in the restaurant which wine you should try. Chile is known for excellent Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots and Carmenère.

Completo
Treat yourself to a Completo (hot dog). This melt in your mouth dish is often quite large, so make sure you have plenty of room. A Completo is often served with chopped tomatoes, avocados, Chilean chili, green sauce, cheese, mayonnaise and sauerkraut.

Chilean Empanadas
A must try traditional dish is the Chilean Empanadas. The most popular Empanadas are filled with “pino” which is beef, onions, raisins, black olives and sometimes topped with a hard boiled egg or two. Chilean Empanadas can be smoky or spicy, however, the sweetness of the raisins complements the taste.

Chilean Bean Stew, or Porotos Granados as they are also known, packs a flavourful and hearty punch and will fill you up. Chilean Bean Stew uses ingredients such as onions, butternut squash, corn, beans, tomatoes and seasoning.
