Hillside history

One of Alila's most recent acquisitions, this fortress of 240 years of age sits majestically on a hillside surveying the small town of Bishangarh on the outskirts of Jaipur. It's grandeur cannot be missed and with spectacular rural views, and intimate feel and special additions like a wine cellar, cigar room and champagne bar this hotel is sure to add an essence of sumptuous luxury to any itinerary.

With only 59 suites, this is the perfect place for a tranquil retreat in a striking setting. Take in the views from the oversized windows and wander the spa gardens before taking advantage of the extensive range of dining options on offer. Or if you want a more active itinerary, try out one of the cooking classes run in the hotel and learn the recipes and techniques used by Rajasthani locals for centuries.

Being only 90 minutes from Jaipur makes this the ideal base to explore the famed Pink City and its icons like the Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal. Or alternatively finish your tour in Jaipur and extend your stay here to make sure you take in the true majesty of this rural part of the Golden Triangle

Lovely..... But is it worth the price

New Delhi, India

The drive to jaipur is not a breeze. And Bishangarh is a little before jaipur near or at shahpur. For Delhi and jaipur people this is a great option for a one night stay and relax. No doubt the property is spectacular. The Fort view and what the staff calls arrival area is picture perfect. The surrounding greenery and the cultivation done by the hotel is truly amazing. Rooms are nice and spacious. So all in all go and see this lovely piece of history restored to a hotel and soak the culture. Let's see the cracks. The place will need constant care and repair. It's the fate of hotels, esp. Such heritage structures. If you ignore it shows very quickly. The coffee, lunch, dinner... One restaurant in the Fort can do with some natural light and air. One should have kept in mind that Forts have low ceiling and are narrow paths leading to rooms within rooms. Starting a day on a hole eating with that beautiful sun and greeny out of sight..... Nah. The pool side near arrival area is very nice and they do have a small kitchen that serves some food. This is one of the place that is best for sitting, reading, sleeping... Basically lounge around and enjoy the property. The food here is mediocre, not much choice. Excursions around the places have choices....paid and complimentary. Again cost maybe an issue if a family of 3 travels then a per head of 3000 can be a bit much. Talking of cost the rack rate is also steep. If the desire was quality check, the off site happening with a group of 50 odd people who drank and sang till past midnight mini nuisance did not suggest there was quality markers. Honestly hotels are here to earn so let's not fake this elitist attitude. Especially when the latter is not appropriate to telecast now a days. Average one night at the hotel alone will cost a person 28 to 30. Hmmm so go once but I much rather see more of India with this one kind of cost.
