The Royal Life of a Maharani

Singapore, Singapore

I have stayed in hundreds of hotels throughout my extensive business and leisure travels. The Rambagh is ranked number one on that list. We were allocated a suite that opened out to an immaculate lawn. The same room was featured on the back cover of the Memoirs of the last Maharani of Jaipur. Portraits of the Maharajah dotted the walls. Three F&C Osler chandeliers hung tall in the rooms. The bathroom a mini palace with walls and floors largely in Jaisalmer marble. The suite next door was a lovely library with exquisite Chinese antique and prized books on display. There must be one hundred peacocks roaming freely in the grounds of the Rambagh. One early morning on my way to Yoga, I spotted dozens of them calling out to each other from the TOP of the trees. It was most surreal. Chef Satya was a gem. The Dosa and the Briyani were out of this world. We were delighted with the regional Indian cuisine presented in 24k gold cutlery by servers in traditional attire at the Suvarna Mahal. I had a scotch at the Verandah Cafe while looking on the Indian dance every evening. The bartender at the Polo Bar was one discreet fellow with sympathetic ears. Go pour your sorrows and secrets to him at the price of one T&G. You must go swimming in the art decor in-door pool. The Maharajah used to swim there every morning. I had my fortune told for 2000 rupees one fateful evening. I shall return to thank him if his readings are to come true. I savor my four days of living as a Maharani in a true palace in Jaipur.

Beautiful Palace

Jersey, United Kingdom

Stunning property with great food. Very special hotel steeped in history. Beautiful rooms and great service. Our concierge Vijas went beyond the call of duty. He showed us the suites where everyone has stayed from kings and queens to pop stars. It seems the visitors list reads like a who’s who !
