Governors' Main Camp

The heart of the magical Masai Mara.

The setting of the Governor's Camp is so magical that when it opened it was reserved exclusively for Kenya's colonial Governors. Nestled among trees on the banks of the Mara River, the camp is in a prime position to view its bird-life, hippos and crocodiles. An authentic safari experience, the canvas tents are luxuriously furnished with ensuite facilities and private verandas. From July to October the camp is the perfect place to experience the magnificent wildebeest migration.

A must visit

Basingstoke, United Kingdom

A wonderful place to experience in Africa. We got to see lots of animals during our stay. We were lucky enough to see the leopard and cheetah (with a baby) along with lions, elephants, jackals, hyenas, buffalos, wilder beast, zebras, deers, ostriches, baboons, crocodiles, hippos, monkeys, giraffes, eagles, mongoose, vultures, and also a rhino. Our guide and driver Issac was really good at finding the animals for us. The landscape for the game drive is breathtaking. The staff at the camp were also very nice. The toilet flush of our camp was not working but upon request to the manger he quickly changed our camp. The view of the river was beautiful from our camp. The lunch and breakfast was good but the set dinner on our first two nights was not enough for us and we felt a little hungry during the night after all that game driving but on the 3rd night they had arranged a really good filling buffet dinner. We also went on the balloon safari. We did not get to see that many animals from the balloon but the ride was an amazing experience on its own. We really enjoyed our time in Masai Mara. My suggestion would be to pack warm clothing as it can get quite chilly during the night and some light clothing for the day time and take some snacks to munch on.

Amazing 3 days

Maidstone, United Kingdom

My husband and I stayed at Governor's Camp for 3 nights. It was our first safari trip and it truly was amazing. All the staff at the camp are so friendly and helpful. Our guide Issac was so knowledgable and enthusiastic and managed to find so many animals for us to see. So thank you so much Issac! The drives out were fantastic, just with scenery alone but to see the animals in their natural environment was amazing. The memories of this trip will stay with us forever. We have many many fantastic photos that we can’t stop looking at. The tents are so comfortable and the food absolutely delicious. Many thanks to our waitress Gladys and drink waiter John. Such a nice touch to have the same waitress and waiter throughout your stay. This truly is a wonderful place to stay!
