7 Nights of Pure Indulgence

Glossop, United Kingdom

My wife and I arrived after an energetic 9 days in the jungle lodges for a7 night break here at Gaya Island Resort and after arriving by boat at 10.30am from Jesselton Point Jetty we were greater by Haliza one of the receptionists and she informed us that our villa would not be ready for 2 - 3 hours but organised breakfast for us, and whilst waiting we discussed my wife's birthday to which she said she would organise a special evening. Once the villa was ready Haliza gave us a tour of the resort and showed us to our villa. The resort and villas are outstanding blending into the surrounding natural environment, pure paradise. For food and restaurants you will not be disappointed, the main Feast Village buffet style to which you will be spoilt for choice and style of food on offer, Japanese Restaurant superb food with entertainment from the chef and Fisherman Cove Restaurant exceptional fish dishes, this is where my wife celebrated her birthday a special evening with intimate seating area, birthday cake and guitar playing / singing happy birthday serenade, fantastic evening (thanks to Haliza). All the staff from receptionists to cleaners are all so courteous, helpful and eager to please, all a credit to the management. My wife and I would like to especially thank Haliza for the special attention she gave, and on checking out she had left a gift and birthday card for my wife. We would not hesitate to recommend Gaya Island Resort. Dave and Julie Richardson Glossop UK

Lovely stay

Stayed here for 3 nights and 2 full days and it was lovely. The staff are very attentive, the rooms are well equipped and clean, the bar and restaurants well stocked. Huge props to the head chef at the buffet - we had a vegetarian in our group and he went out his way every evening to make him a special vegetarian meal that wasn't in the buffet selection. Little touches like that really make it. My only comment to improve this hotel is to be more observant on their beach cleanup - they have a hardworking staff out and about cleaning up the plastic and rubbish that washed up on the beach, but I think more needs to be done. The tide goes out very far in the afternoon, meaning the water is super shallow for ages. When I went out I saw a lot of plastic - bags, straws, deodorant cans, etc. I'd pick up whatever I saw and take it inland to put in the bin. It's not the hotel's fault at all - Gaya Island is just off the mainland of Kota Kinabalu, and I think a lot of the rubbish from the ocean is from the port over there, being washed up on shore to Gaya. I feel like the hotel does have a duty to not only make their resort pretty but also protect and manage the sea surrounding them. When we got the speedboat back to the port at KK, there was so much rubbish floating around it make me really sad. It would be nice to know the hotels are making an effort to clear up the surrounding waters as much as possible.
