Excellent stay

I stayed here on 2 separate occasions in June, 1 for business and 1 for leisure; both times were great. The first time I was here I stayed in the horizon club and it was exceptional. Room was overly spacious for one person but I wasn’t complaining and bed was very comfy. I should note that the club room comes with an nespresso machine as well with your choice of coffee to make. I was also very impressed by the bathroom amenities from L’Occitane soaps to the shower and bathtub. During this first visit, we also had access to the Horizon Club lounge in the afternoon. I had a light afternoon tea and the food was delicious, I should point out it isn’t a champagne high tea as I didn’t see this being laid out. One could ask/request if they wanted to check. They also open after the afternoon tea, at around 5 for canapés and drinks. Again, good good on offer and a selection of wines/cocktails for you to enjoy. The second time, I stayed here for leisure and was in the standard executive room. There are notable differences between the rooms, such as size and in-room amenities. No nespresso machine or branded bathroom amenities but still was very comfortable stay. Depending on situation, you may want to pay a little extra to enjoy the added benefits of the club room at the property if you’re going to be spending more time inside. We opted against the club room the second time because we wouldn’t be in the property at the set times to enjoy the added perks such as the lounge. Overall, I highly recommend this property and do ask about the free shuttle between the hotel and the pavilion as I only just noticed upon check out the second time.

Add One More Start to Bring it to Six Stars

TA limits overall ratings to a 5. If I could I'd give SLKL a 6. When we travel we generally look first at SL hotels because we have never been disappointed. There is a consistent high level of personal service across geographies and properties. Some hotels are newer than others. Not all have the same features. But service is consistent. Service is really what makes a hotel. However, when we went to check-in, it looked like this might be our first disappointment with SL. We were told that there was no room for us despite our reservation due to the government commandeering some rooms for a conference. My wife was just at the cusp of what turned out to be a major illness. So this was doubly unwelcome news. Sometimes things don't go as you planned. It's what happens after that first disappointment that matters. It's how the broken play is fixed. As you can guess from the rating above, quite well. Touchdown and extra point. The reception staff advised they had booked us at the Sheraton and gave us the option of staying there for our 5 night stay. Or returning to the SL after two nights. We chose the latter. Marsy from Guest Services took us over to the Sheraton. While we were waiting for the hotel car, Ali Shariati Associate Front Office Manager and Noryati Hasan Guest Services Manager apologized again. At the Sheraton, Marsy handled the check in and then accompanied us to our room to make sure it was to our liking. It was. Two days later Marsy and Noryati along with Muhammad Aliff Concierge Manager came to collect us. We were taken to an upgraded room. That's an understatement. It was a massive upgrade. See pictures. But as usual with SL, it was the personal concern and service from the staff that rates the 6 stars. My wife's illness took a turn for the worse. Essentially remaining in the room and sleeping. That upgraded room made the situation more tolerable. Every time I met a staff member the first question after the greeting formalities was "How is your wife doing" When we finally relented and asked for a doctor, Inthan and Fairuz from Guest Services arranged one quickly, despite it being early evening. When the doctor recommended a blood test, they arranged transport to the hospital and transport back when we were done, offering a complimentary room service meal if we were hungry. Seeing that my wife was still too ill to come to breakfast, Rini from Lemon Garden made a special order breakfast for her and had it delivered to our room. Zie in the Horizon Club did the same with a lunch. Both room-serviced. Both free. Both enjoyed immensely by my wife. A shout out as well to Mr. Alim at the Concierge Desk for arranging the car to the airport on departure. As usual, there were many other staff who showed personal interest and concern. And as usual, I don't have their names to acknowledge them. I'd need a book to keep track there were that many. Since you're hopefully unlikely to have a major illness or get bumped on your reservation, some words about the hotel. SL KL is in excellent condition. Great location. Rooms are beautifully furnished and comfortable. Quiet. Full range of amenities in the rooms. Good range of restaurants. And as usual for SL impeccable service. Breakfast buffet at Lemon Garden was great. Rini and her team provide excellent service. See separate review. Horizon Club was great as well. Zie and Yune made sure we (mostly me) were well taken care of. Nice offerings of drinks and food throughout the day. Don't miss the scones at afternoon tea. Besides strawberry jam, there is clotted cream. A shout out to whoever included clotted cream on the menu. You can't really have a proper scone without it. And most hotels don't include it when they serve scones. As we were leaving I mentioned to Marsy that I was always impressed by the service at SL hotels. She replied that SL was in the hospitality business, not just engaged in renting rooms. The goal was to treat guests as family. We came to SL KL predisposed to the SL chain. We left even more committed. And when we come back, we'll stay here again.
