Birthday Celebration

London, United Kingdom

REACHING THE RESORT This will be an interesting read for those who suffer from ocd or seek perfection. My husband and I with our 4 and 2 year old boys stayed at Atmosphere Kanifushi between 7 and 17 January 2019 to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We flew direct with BA and landed around 09:30hrs into Male. We were directed by staff to check in into our sea plane and ‘relieve ourselves from the luggage’. We were picked up by a bus and taken to a ‘resting room’ owned by the resort. It was indeed fairly relaxed however after a long flight, the only thing I wanted was to reach the resort and freshen up. By the time we were taken to the resort, a 35min sea plane ride, we arrived at around 1.30pm. ARRIVAL The resort staff and manager went completely out of their way to welcome us. It was absolutely delightful and we were straightaway informed of and met our resort Special Point of Contact, Maaji. We were taken to the restaurant to catch lunch and thereafter collected in a buggy to be taken to our room, and what a stunning room it was. Room 101, the first beach villa from Reception and near to the Day Room, Spice Restaurant and Kids Club. We had been provided with an excursion of the island the following day. KIDS CLUB Rhona was very welcoming and all staff played with the children. On occasions, a couple of activities didn't take place as there was a limited requirement for children. When activities didn't take place, there was always free play and things to do. Over 4s are free without prior booking and under 4s had to be paid for with advanced booking however this wasn't overly expensive.. SWIMMING AT LIQUID BAR The swimming pool for kids area was excellent. Staff in the Liquid Bar were absolutely fantastic generally and with the kids. There was a 0.25m and a 1.20m pool, both big. There was snack food (limited choice) between 11ish and 4pm ish, and fish and chips everyday between 5 and 7pm. SUNSET BAR This bar and an adults only swimming pool is situated at the other end of the island. Unless you hire a bicycle, you should take advantage of the buggy as it is approx 30mins walk from one end to the other of the island. There is an a la carte restaurant, included within the platinum plus package. Very nice food. The bar also serves snack lunch eg burgers/pizzas/pastas/sandwiches between midday and 5pm. There was food more or less available around the clock, a number one priority for those with children. CHILD FRIENDLY My only concern was that for parents wishing to have a drink outside with little ones around, you can only do so inside at the pool bars. Both Liquid and Sunset bars have a pool with deck seating as well as indoor seating. We were constrained to sitting inside due to the fear of the children running out onto the deck and pool area. As a kid-friendly resort, I think a seating area on the beach with a bar would be perfect, creating a safer location on the beach for kids to run around and allow adults to relax in an area other than near a pool. ALL staff were absolutely 100% friendly. BEACH If you are looking for seclusion, this is the place. Everyday we would be out on the beach and you'd only see either someone sunbathing in the distance or a couple passing along the beach. The sand is white, however, not all areas of the beach is powder sand, as the reef brings up ‘bits’ and some areas can be a little rough, but to walk out (to go anywhere) with no slippers was no issue either. The beach was swept everyday throughout the day. It was prestine. HOUSEKEEPING We became friendly with our housekeeper. He became used to our in and out routine so that he'd always appear when we were out so as not to disturb us. There were some very basic housekeeping rules we followed which made a massive difference. The bathroom was part open air. Other than geckos, the bathroom experienced army ants, LOADS of them. I soon became accustomed when they would come out and what I shouldn't leave hanging around in the bathroom. They even got into a zipped toiletries bag! If you have a phobia of ants or geckos, keep the doors shut! LAUNDRY For a family, I started off sending our clothes for a laundry service however this soon started to become fairly expensive. I washed undergarments with some washing powder I brought with me but on a couple of occasions the wooden hanging rail became swamped with ants and the clothes ended up going into the laundry. FOOD at SPICE RESTAURANT Spice was our main buffet restaurant. For Adults: There is a huge selection morning, lunch and dinner as well as desserts. The selection of fruits is limited significantly at lunch and dinner. There are always different types of pasta dishes for children and pizza, and most occasions some kind of nuggets and chips/wedges. A healthy kids selection of boiled veg would be a good idea. ACTIVITES (with kids on board) A daily newsletter is posted through the door every evening. Most entertainment evenings were fairly boring. The best one was a crab race but that only lasted no more than an hour. The disco nights were scarce but that was crowd-dependant and there was some live singing at dinner time. A maldivian bholu bheru (drum playing) should be included within the entertainment and specifically listed in the newsletter; I think this would certainly liven up the atmosphere and with the noise, bring crowds together. We went in and out of the Kids Club throughout the day free of charge which was great (parents present). There was stingray feeding, amazing how they arrive prompt for dinner ever day at 5pm! We missed out on a free excursion, the sunset cruise, as we were informed by the Dive Centre that only age 6+ are allowed on boats with public otherwise we'd have to pay for a private hire. I think this needs to be changed. Whilst I understand the concerns by staff onboard a boat, I think an alternative option should be available. SPECIAL OCCASION We were celebrating a 40th Birthday with 4 long and difficult years. The celebrations commenced by bubbles upon arrival, and a few days later (planned) a knock on the door with drums playing, a small congregation of resort staff and our SPOC, followed by dinner at the Sunset Bar restaurant. We certainly felt the celebrations and were very grateful. OVERALL We have been to Kuredu, Meeru and now Kanifushi. The first two resorts were bigger. However, for the service, facilities and money,a platinum plus package is well worth it. All and any drinks were included in our price and our bar staff made up surprise cocktails which was very nice. Other than some of the minor comments above, I would certainly revisit this island again. A special thanks to Mr Carlton, Maaji, and the wonderful managers and staff we came into contact with. Mr Carlton, the Resort Manager, must revise his guests’ names daily religiously! Thank you Kanifushi. Paradise on earth

We have just got back from 10 nights at atmosphere kanifushi. Amazing! I had researched thoroughly but nothing prepared us for the wonderful resort . From start to finish it was paradise . We stayed in room 169, wonderful position , beautiful villa right on the beach. The room staff were fantastic and even prepared a bubbly flower petal bath as a surprise. The turn down service at night with information on the following days weather, cocktail of the day and events happening was great and I enjoyed reading this every night. The whole island is spotless , the staff are all amazing , gardeners, room staff , buggy drivers, bar and restaurant staff, even the man who pushes a cart along the beach with ice cold drinks . I will never forget how happy and friendly they all were and they all took great pride in their work - this is due to the great manager Carlton. Food was amazing . We had a private bbq on the beach with our own chef and waitress Jo-Ann . She described the food in detail and nothing was too much trouble , her amazing personality made our evening along with the surprise maldevian drummers and best wishes from lots of the staff. Thankyou I-gee for arranging this 😊. Massage was fantastic , so relaxing overlooking the beautiful sea. We hired bikes which was a great (and funny) way of getting around the island, especially after a few cocktails ! Thankyou to all the staff for making this amazing . Special thanks to I-Gee , nothing was too much trouble and you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
