Dream Wedding & Honeymoon

United Kingdom

Any reservations you might have about marrying abroad will fade upon arrival here. Three weeks ago today we were married privately surrounded by sunshine, mountains and the Indian Ocean. The ceremony was perfect and the credit can only go to the wonderful members of staff who took care of us and our families. The wedding cake was superb and our photographer documented our day with great skill. This was all followed by a terrific intimate evening dinner on the beach that catered for everyones tastes courtesy of our very own chefs. It was beyond our expectations. Once the big day was over the honeymoon could begin... Our villa with private pool was clean and modern but with a rustic feel and we loved spending time there. The hotel and gardens are immaculately kept creating a wonderful feeling of tranquility. The food was excellent and we highly recommend the Rum Punch! But the real draw here is the staff. Always smiling and genuinely eager to look after us, every department treated us wonderfully. Special mentions must go to the following: Kenny for his hard work and attention to detail. Kevesh for the awesome dining experience, Pricilla for the brides hair and makeup and finally to Nevin for always looking after us. For your dream wedding and luxury honeymoon - Maradiva delivers. - Mr & Mrs Jones

Lovely honeymoon

We received a warm welcome and were happy with our standard villa and it was a stone's throw from the pretty beach. The villa was clean with exception of slight stains on walls and a bit of a smelly rug. There looked to be some sort of leak coming from the air conditioning unit and it dripped down the wallpaper. Also a slight stain on the wallpaper on one side of the bed. I think the rug may have recently been cleaned and it had an unpleasant damp smell but we soon didn't notice this in a day or 2. The room was lovely but we would say 4 star, and not 5 as advertised. The villa was cleaned every day and luxury Hermes body products replenished generously. We could not fault the warmness and genuine friendliness of the staff. Lovely touches such as when we returned from dinner, our room had been tidied and our slippers were laid out for us,as well as bottles of water left by our bedside. This for us was a once in a lifetime trip and we thoroughly researched where to stay in Mauritius as we obviously wanted to be sure to choose the best we could. The location and surroundings were well thought out with sympathy to the surrounding nature and wildlife. There was beautiful flowers in bloom and we were thrilled to spot various different birds, fruit bats and lizards. We enjoyed our honeymoon spa experience. The therapists were professional, polite and skilled. We enjoyed our couples massage so much we booked in for further treatments. We both agreed we felt very relaxed afterwards. We would like to let other potential guests know that you can enjoy the spa pool and sauna, steam room, plunge pool if you're having a treatment. We didn't know this at first so felt we missed out. 2 of the facilities were out of use on our second visit due to maintenance taking place. The food could either be excellent or really rather unacceptable. I say this because the breakfast needs to be improved upon and quality overall is unpredictable. The baked beans were very salty, too salty. So was the smoked salmon. Both inedible. We ordered breakfast to our villa one morning as a treat. There is an extra charge for eating in your villa. The villas have a lovely outside dining area with sofa, arm chair and dining table, as well as small pool. You may receive some sweet little visitors hoping to share breakfast crumbs with you. We didn't mind the little birds at all they were lovely and we welcomed them warmly,as well as the lizards. The nature, the indigenous plants and flowers here are magical. Unfortunately though halfway through enjoying my breakfast I found a large ant that had been cooked in to one of my pancakes. It put us off our breakfast, so lots was wasted. A small amount was deducted from our bill upon bringing this up with a member of staff. A hair was found in my soup on another evening. I didn't say anything to my husband or staff at the time as i did not wish to create a bad atmosphere. A hair was found in a hash brown at another breakfast sitting. Such a shame. The meal we had on the beach as part of the honeymoon package was lovely and our waiter was charming and friendly. The fish soup was far too salty but the main of beef Wellington was delicious. The actual tents were decorated in flower petals and we had candles it was romantic and special. We ate at the Indian restaurant on one evening and dressed up elegantly - as per written instruction - for the occasion.(signs in the villa advise a strict dress code. No flip flops, long trousers required for gents etc). The service seemed very rushed and we were in and out very quickly. We didn't mind as much because there did not seem to be air conditioning and it was too warm and uncomfortable. We would order lunch on the beach from our sun loungers every day;the menu selection was good and the food fresh and delicious. Wraps, puzza, tuna steak, fries, local dishes. Our waiter Bradley was a delight; smiley and helpful. We might add that there are items you can order off menu for example fresh juices. We would recommend that Maradiva expand the menu to offer all that is available to guests. There's lots to do should you want to explore a bit. Some of the activities are included in the price of the holiday, such as glass boat ride and peddlo. We paid to go on a swimming with dolphins excursion and it was a magical experience. There is a slight concern though for the wellbeing of the dolphins as there are quite a few boats out there all with the same purpose. We agreed with a German guest in our group that we felt the dolphins were being 'hunted' and felt guilty. One thing we really wanted to mention to Maradiva management, and I forgot to put this on my feedback form, was the use of plastic water bottles there. Gueats are allocated a modest amount of water per day and after that you must purchase your water. Water is offered in small plastic water bottles or larger, table size glass bottles. We would always try to order the glass bottles and fill up our own water bottles from these as the amount of plastic you would get through otherwise is quite shocking and made us feel uncomfortable. When you're surrounded by such stunning natural beauty you're reminded of how much you want to keep it that way and not pollute with things such as needless plastic bottles. We want to suggest giving guests a refillable water bottle on arrival and then simply the glass bottles of water to refill these during your stay. No need for the countless plastic bottles. Summary - The scenery and the people were stunning and we had a very relaxing stay. We booked our holiday through Kuoni where Maradiva are marketed as a five star destination. Although we did enjoy our stay very much we would not say it was 4 star and not 5. The flight was very long and uncomfortable so we would perhaps consider finding somewhere closer next time. All being said we had a lovely time and have wonderful memories of our honeymoon at Maradiva. We hope our feedback can be taken as purely constructive so that future guests can enjoy the best value for their stay.
