The perfect romantic hideaway

This charming beach hotel is an invitation to a relaxing and romantic stay. It is named after the legendary young couple immortalised by French author Bernardin de St Pierre in his novel Paul & Virginie. The colonial-inspired decor reveals a peaceful haven where all rooms look out over the stunning lagoon, dotted with islands. Couples will adore the love nests, double sunbeds and hammocks and Le Saint Geran restaurant is ideal for a candlelit dinner on the water in the refined décor of a beautiful pavilion.

  • All rooms face the sea with easy access to the beach and swimming pools.
  • Relaxing adults-only resort
  • Indulge yourself with a treatment at Seven Colours Spa

4 and half stars rating from us. Would recommend without hesitation

england

The hotel is about 70 minutes drive in private taxi from airport. It is positioned just outside of Grand Bay and in the most idyllic setting. The hotel is a boutique style and is adorable to look at and the views out to sea from the grounds are just lovely. The hotel has a little beach, which is not private no beach in Mauritius is. So the local dogs, kids and families didn’t bother us. There is a lagoon around the hotel before the waves, which makes it great for swimming in the sea. Too the hotel puts on paddle boards, kayaks and double peddlers. They lay on things like coconut workshops, learn to speak the local language lessons, keep fit classes and the cooking classes with the chef. One evening they had an open kitchen, which I found fascinating. The kitchen huge and spotless clean as the rest of the hotel. The chef cooked me fresh noodles which were so tasty. A selection of table de hote and Buffett. The food was generally of excellent quality. They also had a picnic service, pizza bought to your sunbed- I knew I was on holiday heaven then! The drinks did change with each order and I asked for a ‘not strong’ gin fizz as the first one was so strong it was unpleasant. There was a good choice of drinks and most were included in the all inclusive. I am very glad we went all inclusive as found the island generally expensive. The hotel has a little boutique shop which actually was reasonably priced when I compared to outside and could charge to your room bill and pay at end in one transaction. The spa was delightful, has a sauna to start your treatment, I had aback massage which was very good. My husband a full body massage. The treatments were expensive and within the next days the spa staff walked round advertising they had 30% off treatments then 50%. So I was a bit gutted but I didn’t mind giving out money to the hotel as they upgraded our room on arrival and gave us early check in. We didn’t need a late check out, but they told us they have a room for guests to room or you could pay extra to keep room on, which we saw some do. The hotel got busier as our stay went on and they had special events at the beach restaurant, a well known local chef for example. If you wanted to attend there was a supplement, we didn’t due to the amount of fish on the menu which my husband doesn't eat. We saw couples having a table on the beach, this wasn’t advertised you would have to ask I guess. We did find this- having to ask rather then advertised, the staff were very helpful but sometimes you just want to read it through and look at the price. We used a fantastic tour operator, turn left outside hotel and walk 3 mins it’s on other side of road - called sun tropical tours they were great. But the hotel organised a great catamaran tour and bike tours themselves at good prices. They organised us a taxi, tip though agree the price before getting in as it varies a lot. They do supply a shuttle bus but we wanted to go at a certain time. Shopping at grand bay is only a 15 min taxi drive away and cost about £12 each way. The taxi/cars are all modern with air con, get changed every 5 years I’m told. Our room was brilliant, had a fridge which was stocked up daily with a couple of cokes, beers and juices each day as part of all inc package. The cleaning service was spot on, once in day and a turn down at night. The staff throughout were pretty great, they have a lot of trainees but we all have to start somewhere and Nivesah (sorry if spelt wrong) on the reception desk was great. Gave us a tour of the hotel grounds on arrival, he was nervous but he did good. We saw new customers getting their arrival tours later on, which is a nice touch. It’s not a big place. Perfect for couples. The reason I marked down half a star, they offer a picnic box if you are all in and you are going out for the day. You must order at least the day before, we did but it was not ready to collect and this made us late for our tour which we found embarrassing. Then the drinks inconsistency, but this is a small thing. The hotel is on a through road which starts to get busy early hours and I was woken at 4am a couple of times with the traffic and deliveries, we had a high floor so maybe a lower one would have solved this? But I did sleep well otherwise. There were plenty of 3 pin plugs and a hairdryer in room with Logan of mirrors too. I would have no hesitation in going back or recommending this hotel, we found Mauritius a beautiful island with a variation of things to do with friendly people and the staff at this hotel worked so hard, I thank them all. We tend to try somewhere else in the world for the next holiday, but would think about going back in a few years maybe, we loved it.

A Mauritian Gem

Sunderland, United Kingdom

Firstly, please do not believe any previous reviews with negative comments. We have just returned from this intimate and charming hotel and have praise for not only the hotel, but for the main asset which is the staff. Everyone greets you with a smile, and a comment on how your day is. We stayed in room 410 which was one if the privilege rooms, very spacious, and on an upper level so our view was beautiful. We found on unpacking we didn't have enough coat hangers, a quick visit to reception solved this, and they were waiting in our room when we returned. It would be impossible to name all the staff, however, Jane, Jessica, Venishta and The Maestro were memorable by their excellent service, as was the extra entertainment provided by Rakesh doing magic tricks at the bar and his QI type questions. This is the only hotel that we have stayed in where the Manager walked among the guests, almost on a daily basis, asking if everything was OK. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and would be very happy to return for our 25th, this is an absolute gem of a hotel. This hotel has a heart and soul and it is the staff who are a godsend. The food at both restaurants was amazing, never had a bad meal the whole time.If you are thinking about a peaceful and quiet holiday go to this hotel you will not regret it.We came back with fully recharged batteries ready to face the world again. if you get the chance, do the Walkng with Lions tour, amazing day!!!
