Beautiful but not atmospheric.

London, United Kingdom

We visited for a week in late November. Weather was average, quite a lot of rain and cloud. There are probably better times to visit and we recommend you check this first. The accommodation is outstanding. Rooms are vast and extremely comfortable. Slightly disappointing that none have sea views, but difficult to fault otherwise. Occupancy was very low, only one or two other couples for the whole week, made the place feel too quiet. We felt this is probably a great destination for honeymooners but if like a bit more life then this is probably not the place. We thought the yoga and the massages were brilliant and the highlight of every day. We liked the chef and his massive enthusiasm, particularly for the new kitchen garden they are developing, which will be amazing. We went for a tour around the island, we went island hopping and snorkelling, nice activities but not amazing. Most of the reef and the mangroves were fished with explosives until 2019 and this has destroyed so much of the marine life and the coral, it is absolutely tragic. We found the staff almost too attentive, it seemd to cramp our privacy or maybe our ability just to get on and really enjoy the surrounds. We loved just being dumped in General Luna to walk, try the local bars and street food (Mama's grill is essential!). But there was barely enough to do for a week and the outings just weren't enough fun. Staff are almost trying too hard to be attentive and perfect, they need to relax more, inject more local flavour into the outings , dump visitors at different places and let them get on with it rather than following five paces behind. Nay Palad Hideaway is very good and the staff are very kind and thoughtful the place just needs an injection of life, become more vibrant and more imaginative.

Best. Vacation. Ever. Period.

Seattle, Washington

We decided on Nay Palad many months go, based on the amazing reviews and our desire for an exotic, far-flung destination. From the beginning, the experience was perfect - working with Charm and Joshua via email was easy, and in fact enjoyable. They handled all of our special requests effortlessly. But I'll skip ahead to the good parts - actually being there. Arriving on Siargao Island is an experience, to say the least. You descend quickly in a twin-engine prop plane, onto a single runway cut into the jungle. You definitely know we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto! Michelle met us just outside after we gathered our luggage, and shepherded us into a nice Mercedes van, where we were greeted with cold towels, colder water, and snacks of dried tropical fruits. The drive to Nay Palad was about 45 minutes through tine, interesting villages with free-roaming goats, water buffalo, and pigs mixing with the bustling crowds in the streets. Arriving at Nay Palad, with the enormous entry gate, was like stepping into a cool mist from the jungle heat - 10 or so staff were awaiting us, waving, with gifts and smiles and the warmest welcome anyone could hope for. Upon arrival, we were given more cool towels and a lovely, tropical welcome drink, then sat down in the open air bar to get an orientation from Chef Marc and Janice. The first thing they said was, "Welcome home." It would take a little while for us to realize exactly how true this statement was. Staying at Nay Palad is a series of surprises, so I won't share many details from here. Trust me that you will be delighted again and again. The resort itself is amazing - beautiful, open, untamed yet luxurious. Our cottage was absolutely delightful, the various dining locations sublime, and the rest of the facilities absolutely perfect. Meals are amazing - Chef Marc is quite talented, and beyond the superb quality of the food, he makes sure to create a unique experience each time we dined. No spoilers here, but there are delightful surprises at every culinary turn. We also found the housekeeping to be incredible, absolutely perfect, as well as the underrated amenity of unlimited laundry each day. Being able to pack lightly because Nay Palad provides wash services is a delight. And don't forget the spa, with some of the best massage treatments we've ever had. We spent a couple hours almost every day being pampered and twisted and pulled in the most wonderful of ways. We didn't avail ourselves of many popular activities such as surfing and paddleboarding, preferring instead to rest and spend quiet family time together. We did spend a day island hopping, including one of the most memorable beach barbecues in our lives. But what sets Nay Palad apart - in addition to a perfect location, lovely grounds, and amazing meals - is what they call "barefoot luxury." It's impossible to describe until you experience it. Remember "welcome home?" Within hours we were truly home. I mean, we took off our shoes when we arrived, and literally never put them back on until we left a week later. The staff became family, and after a few days, we realized every bit of stress had left us. We left screens behind, and spent family time together - slow, languid, with laughter and enjoyment and relaxation. I can't adequately describe how Nay Palad gets under your skin and eases you into a different - and much better - state of mind. Vince & Janice & Hugo, Kim, Em-Em, Michelle, Chef Marc, and many, many others conspired to make our stay perfect, and it was in every way. You can't imagine how Nay Palad changes you - it's like you show up a caterpillar, Nay Palad is your cocoon, and before you know it you're flying, light and beautiful.
