Beautiful Privacy

We stayed on this island for 4 nights and loved it. It is so peaceful and the staff are genuinely friendly. Our room and its position with a piece of beach that felt very private was amazing. We loved sitting on the day bed in the shade. The island is beautiful and Jose gave us a very informative buggy tour of it. The highlight for me was regularly visiting the giant tortoise enclosure with lettuce supplied by the kitchen. The new pool was great to swim in with hardly anyone using it. There are also huge numbers of birds which we loved to see - the island is doing an amazing job with conservation. The food was the best we had in all the hotels we stayed in. There is a buffet for breakfast and lunch with quite a lot of choice considering how few people are being catered for, and a 5 course evening meal chosen from a menu. Note that if you require dessert (and they are excellent) you need to order it up front – on the first evening we said we didn’t know whether we would want dessert, and were not asked again after the main course, so went without. Drinking water is plentiful – there were always 3 x litre bottles in our room which were replenished twice a day if required. It is also free with meals. Information that some might find useful: - There is a large library but only a handful of English books, so bring your own if you require. - The hairdryer was an awful contraption attached to the wall in the hot bathroom which needed a button pressed continuously. I had left mine at home because of the small luggage allowance but regretted this. - Luggage does not all need to be soft sided. We had checked beforehand and brought a hard sided case which is fine as long as it is within the 15kg weight limit. - We did not need any local currency whilst there. Everything can be signed for and paid by card at the end. Tipping is actively discouraged. - Apparently the advertised 12.05 time of the return plane is only approximate, so be aware if you have onward flights booked as it could be slightly later than that. - The weather was wetter than we had thought October might be and there was rain several times every day (usually for just 15 minutes or so). I don’t know if this is the reason but there were loads of mosquitoes about and we got lots of bites, even during the day (and despite constant wearing of repellent). They were always present in the open air bathroom and toilet. Would we go back? Although we loved it, we probably wouldn’t just because of the mossies – it meant we couldn’t completely relax and were always on the lookout for new bites!

Honeymoon Perfection

Keystone, Colorado

My husband and I spent 4 nights on Denis Island as part of our honeymoon, and if we could have extended our stay, we would have. We were not surprised to learn that 50% of their guests are return clients, and we already can't wait to come back for an anniversary! Even the flight in to the private air strip is spectacular, and when we landed, we were warmly greeted by Ephreon & the GM Werner. Transportation is via buggy or bikes (which we loved!), and the entire island is so lush and well-cared for. We were very impressed to learn that when the Mason family purchased the island, they worked hard to ensure that the island is a sustainable garden oasis. We stayed in Chalet 29 which we loved. The only feedback we have to share is that we wished they had down pillows - the bedding could have been a little more plush. All chalets are very private, and we LOVED the beach bikes (got to bike around the island multiple times!). The food is spectacular, with service to match. Mac, Lennox, Ganesh, Sne (I'm sure I'm missing some!) all took excellent care of us. Jose gave us a fabulous "jungle boogie" tour :) - my husband doesn't like bugs or heat, and was hesitant to go on the tour, but he was so glad we went. We were very impressed to learn that 70% of the food served to guests is grown or raised on the island. We are foodies and would go to the island if only to eat. We had just gotten PADI certified, & we did our first ocean dive @ Denis; Bakari & Alex were awesome and made sure we felt comfortable and safe. Did tons of swimming & snorkeling - swam with rays, sharks & tons of turtles! The new infinity pool was fabulous - this was a surprise to me (the old pool had washed away and the new pool was finished only a month prior to our stay), and we definitely enjoyed the pool for a sunset cocktail. One of the highlights of our stay was the charming mixologist, Selwyn. Selwyn made fabulous concoctions (I don't think I ever picked a drink from their menu!). He even stopped by the airstrip as we flew out to say goodbye (We miss you Selwyn!). The service during our entire stay was perfection. We arrived as guests, but we always felt among friends. Thank you for being a highlight of our honeymoon!
