Pure luxury in bustling Bangkok

The Tower Club at Lebua in Bangkok is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city. Priding themselves on exclusivity and high quality service, the hotel was even chosen for the filming of The Hangover II! Lebua Tower Club is the only luxury hotel in Bangkok which is all-suite and all-club, with breathtaking views of Bangkok and the Chao Phraya River from every suite!

Just outside are the city's sightseeing, business and shopping districts. Its close proximity to the BTS Sky Train and expressway puts the entire city within reach, though you may prefer to just gaze upon it from the extraordinary vantage points throughout the hotel.

Very poor customer service

Terrible experience, the reception staff were very unhelpful especially the manager Marco he was rude and had no authority to help with my situation. Our booking had been cancelled unknown to us and he would only let us rebook the room for 3 times the original payment which was ridiculous as the room was still available he kept us waiting for over one and a half hours only to tell us he knew booking.com wouldnt be of any help after trying to phone them to sort the problem out and couldn't even get through. We spoke to booking.com since we have been home and thet say it was the hotel that cancelled. We managed to get 3 rooms in the Sheraton Royal Orchid instead and i am so glad we did the staff were so different very friendly and helpful, the hotel lobby was far better and we ended up having a great time in the Sheraton. The staff at the Iebua could take note of how to treat guests from the Sheraton staff. There seemed to be lots of other guests having issues with their booking too which we witnessed while we were waiting. Definately not a friendly inviting hotel. I certinally wouldnt try to stay here again so many better hotels available.

Overpriced and rude

We visited this sky bar having been told the views from the top were amazing. The views were okay however not panoramic. The reason for the review is to inform you of the rudeness of the staff at this hotel/bar. Ushering you through like it’s a football match and demanding you buy a drink within a second of entering the bar. Secondly, the drinks were extorshanetly priced, we ordered two waters and it came to nearly £15 (more expensive than the meal we had had an hour previously at a local restaurant with a full chicken, beers, rice, salads and actual nice servers). If your hotel already has nice views of the city, as ours does, it simply isn’t worth the hassle from the waitresses and the extraordinary drinks prices. P.s Didn’t have a problem with any of the male waiters there, mainly just the rude waitresses. After finishing our £15 waters we wanted to get a picture over the city, after asking twice we finally got a picture which again was rushed, didn’t feel personal for the price we were paying. The lady then handed us the bill and didn’t trust that we’d actually paid the correct amount. The lift on the way down was also cramped, feel sorry for the guests staying at the hotel. 2 stars is generous.

Lost its way

We visited the Lebua once in February and once in March this year. Unfortunately, the hotel was not what it had been in the past. We have been staying at the Lebua since slightly after it opened and when it opened we would have rated the hotel as one of our top five. Not now. Now we would rate this hotel as 3 stars. I will try to make this review balanced and fair. If you have never been to a 5 start hotel in Thailand or Southeast Aisa, then you are most likely going to rate this hotel highly as it is not a bad hotel. However, if you are used to real 5 star hotels across the world then you may wonder what you are doing at the hotel. The fundamental problem with the Lebua is its bars and the impact they have on hotel guests. The hotel is very focused on getting as many people as possible (who are not staying in the hotel) through its rooftop bars and charging them a minimum of $30 a drink. This creates a number of problems for its hotel guests. The first issue is the lifts of which there are only 4. Unless you are incredibly lucky you will find yourself waiting for these lifts and in our experience up to 10 minutes and then with no guarantee, you can fit in as its full of people going to the sky bar to take selfies. This links into the second problem which is the popularity of the bars for people taking selfies. The hotel is focused on hard selling these people drinks, while these people are focused on taking selfies and avoiding buying drink in many cases. This results in the hotel guests being treated in the same way as the people coming up for a picture and the service is very poor. Get ready to be processed. It has the feel of an airport security queue, polite pushy, rushed and very very impersonal. So as a guest you have nowhere to go in the evening for a 5-star drink on the roof. Add to this the bars are busy so expect to be pushed around as people try to get the perfect picture and don't wear white as people are smoking all over the place and ash is blown everywhere, including your drinks. Last but not least for the bars. For some reason, the Lebua has decided that its bar managers should all be young Americans if we wanted to serve by Americans we would be in America.Not sure why the hotel is not employing Thai People as bar managers??? In our view, the Lebua needs to decide if its an overpriced bar with great views and poor service, making loads of money, or a five-star hotel with great bars. Currently its the first one. Add to this the rooms are dated and have not changed since we have been visiting. Yes, they are large and have great views but they have not kept up to date. The showers are very old style and if you are tall you will find yourself hugging the wall under a very small shower head. All the lighting and electronics in the rooms feel very dated. there are no USP chargers in the room just normal plugs and there is nothing special about the lighting like you would expect in an up to date 5-star hotel. The turndown service is so poor I'm not even sure it happened? absolutely nothing special if it did? Lastly, this hotel is attracting a lot of the party crowd so if you are looking for a quite sophisticated stay, then this is going to be hit and miss. We stayed 3 nights and were kept up every night by very noisy guests until 4:30 am. If you are thinking, hay I will book the club and go stay in a sophisticated area where the party people won't be, you would be wrong. We observed that there were large groups of men (10 in each party) travelling together expressing their intent to drink as much of the free alcohol as possible before 6 pm. So in summary, if you dont want to sleep, like a party and can afford $30 a drink you will love this place.

For an evening of sophistication head to Distil. Known for many ultra-premium spirits and prestige champagnes not available in any other outlet in Thailand, including Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute scotch, Martell L’or cognac, Plymouth and Burrough’s gin. With big comfy sofas and resident DJs, this is a place to see and be seen. During your visit, we would recommend a visit to “The Cellar” the highest cheese cellar in Thailand, or sample tasty treats at The Oyster Bar. Restrictions: Please be aware that there is a smart casual dress code at Distil and all guests must be over 20 years of age.

Ocean 52

Ocean 52 is a discreet cocktail bar, perfect for quiet conversation - whilst sampling the innovative cocktail list.

Cafe Mozu

Located at the poolside, Café Mozu offers a global menu and all-day dining. The breakfast buffet is legendary featuring more than 120 international specialties. They really have something for everyone, with European pastries, meats and cheeses, freshly cooked eggs and omelettes, and Asian food – everything from dumplings to sushi. Restrictions: Please note there is a smart casual dress code at Distil, and guest must be over 20 years of age.

Sirocco

Sirocco captivates guests with the finest rooftop views in Bangkok, refined Mediterranean cuisine and a very unique cocktail list. If it looks familiar, it could be because the restaurant is featured in The Hangover 2 movie – try ordering a “Hangovertini”, this was created by the cast whilst they were filming. The dining area is spaciously arranged, providing a private and comfortableambiance. Feel content as you enjoy the views from the highest al fresco restaurant in the world. Dress code: Smart Casual Dress Code: Sirocco does not permit athletic or sports uniforms, torn clothing, slippers, beach sandals and flip-flops. Mezzaluna

Mezzaluna is regularly on the 'best restaurants' in Bangkok lists, so if you are looking for somewhere to dazzle and delight – this would be the perfect choice. As you rise to the 64th floor and your ears start popping, you then exit the elevator and climb the glamorous sweeping staircase up to the 65th floor - the highest floor in the State Tower. The restaurant is housed within The Dome, and provides 180-degree views of the river and city. The lighting is dim and atmospheric, and a quartet plays everything from well-known classical pieces to Glenn Miller. Famed for its set menus that come in four or seven courses. Only the finest seasonal ingredients are used here - international growers as well as local artisans. Herbal oils and vinegars are homemade as are the fruit and vegetable extracts which are used for the smoking, pickling, curing and grilling,which is also done on-site. Restrictions: Minimum age - 12 years Dress code: Smart Casual Dress Code: Mezzaluna does notpermit athletic or sports uniforms, torn clothing, slippers, beach sandals and flip-flops. This fine dining restaurant located on the 54th floor is a must for those who wish to experience a magical & unforgettable dining moment set high above the hustle & bustle of this exciting City. Photo opportunities abound & the staff are happy to assist with capturing the memories. Reservations are recommended, as this is such a popular spot for a special evening. Choose from the à la carte menu or through the seasonally inspired tasting menu, and with 3,000 bottles of wine on hand, you will be spoilt for choice.
