Spectacular resort inspired by Thai mythology

Nestled in glorious greenery, yet only a short drive from Patong beach - Keemala aims to transport their guests to a mythical world where a fantasy-like construction of bungalows perches on the hills of Kamala.  Keemala is like no other resort on Phuket, due to its architecture and experiences on offer.

The pool villas come in in four separate styles - clay and straw cottages, tent villas, tree houses and bird's nest villas - with each one representing a clan of fictitious early Phuket settlers: Pa-ta-Pea’ (Earth), the ‘Khon-Jorn’ (Wanderers), the ‘We-Ha’ (Sky), and the ‘Rung-Nok’ (Nest) people.

The Mala Spa has eight pod-like treatment rooms scattered in the gardens – this serene oasis offers traditional Thai Therapies alongside more unusual remedies like raindrop healing and energy re-balancing and integrative bodywork. The hotel offers a holistic activity schedule with daily yoga, Thai boxing, aqua Thai Chi, Circuit Conditioning, Holistic Nutrition, Meditation, and so much more.

Keemala has just one restaurant – Su Tha – which serves a delectable Thai, international and Indian cuisine. Meals can also be taken in your room or by the pool for a change of scenery.

Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Keemala is the perfect place for honeymooners, couples and families wishing to get away from it all whilst making it as busy or relaxed as you wish.

Read the 3 star reviews. Disappointed

Boston, Massachusetts

Really REALLY wanted to love this hotel. Sincerely let down, which is a shame as it has such great reviews, strong social media game, and quirky design. Keemala is a great hotel look at. I'll repeat that, to LOOK AT. Unfortunately, once you're there, there are no views except that of into other folks tents, construction and several apartment buildings and offices. This is the "spot" for Instagram influencers and optimal angles as you can see from the pics in my review. However, it ends there. The rooms and ground are tired, staff unhelpful, and restaurant/food poor. There were body fluids on our sheets and pillows but the staff took multiple requests before finally replacing.Disclaimer; I was on a reduced rate so perhaps I was lower on the list of priorities. Really hope this resort makes some changes around staff, puts up more trees for privacy and hides the city view, as well as rennovates the restaurant and revamps the menu!

Don’t trust what pictures show you

Lausanne, Switzerland

A typical example of hotel where the difference between picture and reality is massive and where you can only be disappointed upon arrival. It’s not as new and shiny as it looks on paper, far from that. The hotel is a bit tired and not perfectly maintained. There is a clear effort to me made in upgrading the rooms, the restaurant, the gym, the pool area... well, everything. The location itself is not good. Yes it’s in the jungle but it overlooks buildings and far, in the distance the beach that you can only see from a few rooms but it cannot be considered as see view. Different room types to chose from all with private pool but the water is too cold to really enjoy it. We stayed in a bird nest and were not impressed by the set up on 2 levels with the lower level arranged in a weird way, with a massive lounger that you never use as it is inside. It would have been much smarter to have a living room with TV + working desk at that level and keep the upper floor as bedroom only. The atmosphere in our room was more « out of Africa » than Asian / Thai for that matter. Another interesting cultural thing is the prayers up to 6 times a day from the Mosque nearby. The first one at 5am is sure to wake you up. Breakfast is ok and what you order from the menu is tasty but the continental buffet is not very impressive. Bread quality is particularly poor. Overall service is friendly and attentive and our villa host Mac was certainly dedicated to making our stay enjoyable. With so many beautiful locations in Phuket, so many boutique beach hotels to chose from, I don’t recommend staying at Keemala.

Room Types

Tent Pool Villa

The tent pool villas are a reflection of the ‘Khon-Jorn’ clan’s adventurous nature. Foragers, herders, traders and explorers. Filled with wildlife details and textures inspired by the clans lifestyle. Your luxurious canopied master bed, heavy oak furniture and varnished wooden floor trick you into thinking you’re sleeping between solid walls. The huge master bedroom leads through sliding glass doors onto the infinity pool and lounge beds outside – there’s also a spectacular view over Kamala bay.

Tree Pool House

The “We-ha” people lived in homes suspended from trees, and worshipped the universe. This is the fictional story that inspired the design of the Tree Pool House. You will have an enormous 169 square metres of spectacular living space, laid out over two floors. The interiors of the seven Tree Pool Houses incorporate suspended furniture and cocoon-like beds and loungers. The Tree Houses offer rain forest and resort views, and include a spacious bathroom with an immense monsoon shower, outside shower, guest washroom and a stand-alone bathtub. Complete with a private pool and outdoor sun terrace, this really is a very special place.

Clay Pool Cottage 1 Bedroom

The Clay Pool Villas are set lower down in the forest and offer beautiful views over the surrounding nature.Inspired by the culture of the ‘Pa-Ta-Pea’ clan, who were farmers, gardeners and carpenters, the interiors are sleek and luxurious, with furniture being made from wood and other natural materials. Take a dip in your private pool, or simply chill out on your poolside terrace and listen to the sounds of the forest.

Food & Drink

Su Tha Bar

Sparkling Bellinis, lime-and-lemongrass-infused Tom Yum cocktail, and bittersweet martini with raw cacao: the bars cocktail list is inventive and classic. And for the guests who prefer their drinks a little softer there is an extensive list of non-alcoholic cocktails and fruit blends. Whatever your tipple - head for the terrace at sundown for a dramatic sunset.

Su Tha Restaurant

Su-Tha, meaning divine food in Thai, where guests can indulge in fine dining in a sophisticated atmosphere. The all-day-dining restaurant offers traditional Thai cuisine with a healthy touch. A variety of herbs, vegetables, and fruits are grown organically in the hotels own garden, while other produce is sourced from trusted suppliers.
