Welcoming and relaxing

We had a 4 night break in Castara Retreats, whilst having a 2 week holiday in Barbados. And it was certainly worth the effort! We stopped in Hummingbird 1, which has a large veranda and stunning views of the bay and Castara. The open air kitchen was spotlessly clean and the large fridge was essential for storing everything away (we left a banana in the open only to find it later, half eating by birds or fruit bats). The air conditioning in the bedroom was essential (and quiet) as were the mosquito nets! .Just sit in the shade of the veranda, relax, read and listen to the multitude of birds...we were also visited by chickens and a very friendly cat. I also spotted my first agouti from there. Castara is a small village with 2 small mini-market shops, some bars and cafe/restaurants. We mainly ate at Castara Retreats restaurant (Caribbean Kitchen) which is excellent (see separate review) On Saturday a clay oven was used near the beach for producing bread and pastries. Just walking around the streets and sitting having a coffee at Chenos corner cafe can while away a morning...we also walked to the Castara waterfall. For swimming, we walked around to the Little Bay...it provided a bit more shade from the sun than the main bay. Special mention to Porridge and Jeanell for looking after us so well, and making a special effort to catch us each day for a brief conversation. On our final day Porridge arranged for us to stay in the chalet for 3 hours beyond the check out time (thank you), arranged the taxi to airport and later made a special effort to say goodbye. All very much appreciated...it made for an excellent welcoming and relaxing holiday

Wedding on beach

Fordingbridge, United Kingdom

We had a fantastic time here. We booked for a family wedding and stayed in a villa on Englishman's Bay (see TripAdvisor). The restaurant provided a truly sumptuous feast and our guests were all really happy. As we we because their wedding day package is really good value for money. We saw a good deal of the island during our holiday and still feel we chose the best accommodation and the best location in Tobago. The staff looked after us really well, both the UK contact and the local people on site. Castara is a beautiful village with lots of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. As well as getting married we visited Little Tobago with Errol Roach tour guide, went fishing off the jetty at Parlatuvier and went fishing with a random fisherman we met there. We went on lots of walks in the forest, visited Charlottesville and Scarborough and went to the Argyle Falls. We will definitely miss being woken up by the mockingbird nesting on the roof, the loudest cicada known to man and the squabbling parrots v chacalacas war every morning! It was also the first time I'd seen fireflies which congregated round the villa every evening. Truly Magical.
