A Glance At Gorillas

Tracking gorillas through the mountains of Uganda is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget. With our A Glance at Gorillas tour, you’ll follow an experienced guide on a short safari around designated conservation areas and national parks, seeing how these beautiful creatures live in their natural habitat, first-hand.

We’ve spent decades organising tours in Africa, giving us a unique perspective on the best routes and accommodation available at different times of the year. You’ll also have the opportunity to take a low altitude connecting flight between Bwindi and Entebbe; offering a unique view of beautiful landscapes, indigenous settlements and national parks bursting with wildlife.

Beyond your mountain gorilla trek at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, there will also be plenty of time for you to explore the abundant game reserves at Lake Mburo, which are home to rich numbers of zebra, buffalo, impala and leopard. No trip to Uganda would be complete without discovering the beautiful coastal towns along the shores of Lake Victoria – a perfect place to explore at your own pace.

It’s an early morning start on day two as you set off from the hotel at 0730 hrs for a beautiful morning drive over to Lake Mburo National Park. There will be plenty to gaze at along the way as you travel across the Equator. Naturally, you’ll have the chance to take a classic photo with one foot in each hemisphere - and check which way the water runs down the plughole.

Having arrived at Lake Mburo by early afternoon, it’s the perfect time to take a relaxing boat cruise across the lake before heading out for an early evening trail walk with an experienced park ranger. This provides you with the perfect opportunity to start spotting exotic wildlife and birdlife at sundown. Finally, head back to your accommodation at Mihingo Lodge for a delicious evening meal, a few well-deserved drinks,  and maybe even a visit from some galago or bush babies at the lounge of the lodge, before bedtime.

Start today in Lake Mburo with a two hour game walk among grazing impala and zebra. There’s also a high chance you’ll see the rare Rothchild’s giraffe, which were recently translocated to the park to help regenerate population numbers. After this, it’s time to head back on the road as you head over to the mountainous forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the magical setting of your Uganda gorilla trek. There’ll be plenty of magnificent landscapes and local villages to see along the way, as well as a few opportunities to grab a bite to eat.

At Bwindi, you’ll check in for your two night stay at Buhoma Lodge in plenty of time to drop off your things and enjoy an evening meal. Spend a few hours by the campfire that night as local musicians and dancers serenade you with fantastic live entertainment.

There’s no doubt you’ll be looking forward to day four of your Ugandan adventure. This is the time to make your unforgettable trek through the forests of the mountains as you follow gorillas in their natural habitat. After a good breakfast, you’ll be given a full briefing by an expert ranger before heading off into the dense tropical rainforest in search of a gorilla family.

An endangered species, the Bwindi conservationists have gone to great lengths to encourage growth in the population of gorillas, while also allowing people to come and experience the magic of seeing these creatures up-close in the wild. Once spotted, you’ll have a chance to spend one hour observing their natural behaviour before heading back to the camp to discuss the experience and, time-permitting, enjoy a community walk to visit a nearby indigenous village.

On the final day of your Ugandan tour, head over to the Kihihi Airstrip to take a low-altitude morning flight over to Entebbe. On the way, you’re likely to see plenty of local farmers attending to their fields and children on the way to school.

From Kihili, your plane will coast over magnificent scenery, game reserves and small settlements, offering another unique perspective of the natural beauty of Uganda. Depending on the time of your departure, a guide will be there to meet you at Entebbe Airport and take you into the town to relax, have lunch or dinner, and buy souvenirs at your leisure before returning to the airport for your flight home, or onward journey.
