A Glance At Gorillas

This short safari packs a lot into a few days, with the highlight being a once in a lifetime experience with some of the world’s only remaining mountain gorillas. Along the way you will learn about the night life in the wild during an evening game drive and also get up close with the game in Lake Mburo national park. Take a domestic flight at relatively low altitude over the stunning countryside and game-filled national parks and interact with the warm welcoming local communities of Uganda.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your guide who will accompany you throughout this safari, transfer to your hotel conveniently located a short distance away. The rest of the day is at leisure and an evening meal will be available in the hotel up to 10.00pm.

This morning you have an early start, depart at 07.30am to drive west towards Lake Mburo National park (approx. 5 hours). Pause at the Equator for photo opportunities not forgetting that iconic picture of yourself with a foot in each hemisphere and to check if water goes down the plug hole clockwise or anticlockwise in the north and south. Some light refreshments and souvenirs are also available here. Enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on the lake and at dusk accompanied by a ranger go out to learn about the night life in the wild.

Start your day with a two-hour guided nature walk among animals including impalas, zebra and keep your eyes peeled for the recently translocated Rothschild’s giraffe. From here at 10.00am start your journey to Bwindi’s Impenetrable forest (approx. four to five hours) passing by the beautiful countryside and fascinating towns and villages stopping on route for lunch. Feel the warmth of the camp fire this evening as you enjoy local live entertainment.

The highlight of your tour has arrived. After breakfast prepare yourself for an encounter with some of Bwindi’s gentle giants, the endangered Mountain Gorilla. After a short briefing at the park headquarters with your small group, your ranger will lead you through the tropical rainforest in search of your gorilla family. Once your allocated family has been located stay with them for one hour, observing their behaviour in their natural habitat. This is a truly magically and unique moment as everyone's experience is different. If time allows this evening take a community walk to meet some local people.

Today begin a two-hour transfer to Kihihi airstrip, passing locals attending to their fields and children making their way to school. From Kihili airstrip take a 09.45am domestic flight over the spectacular scenery of western Uganda back to Entebbe Airport. Depending on the time of your onward flight, a guide can meet you if time allows and take you to Entebbe town to relax, have lunch/dinner and if required do a little souvenir shopping before returning to the airport.
