Alaska Holidays

Alaska holidays call travellers to journey off the beaten track and embrace the wilderness of the United State’s largest state. With 80 percent of its land not accessible by road, it's incredibly rich in unspoilt landscapes and wildlife; it’s a state of outdoor adventure just waiting to happen.

The state’s capital city of Juneau is the United State’s largest city by land area but a relatively small population of around 32,000, so there’s plenty of nature to explore here, as well as the city’s galleries, restaurants and nightlife destinations. Just outside of Juneau lies Mendenhall Glacier. Grab some crampons and go glacier trekking or simply stand back and admire the impressive sight. For a dose of Alaskan culture, head to Anchorage and learn about local indigenous groups at the Native Heritage Centre. Thrill seekers won’t be disappointed here either, with 300 miles of wilderness trails and 60 glaciers on the city’s doorstep. If you’re keen to get out of the city, take to the water and explore the wild Glacier Bay National Park by boat.

Visit Alaska’s small towns

If you’re looking for some small town charm, Alaska’s got it in abundance. Head to Talkeetna, a quaint town with views of Denali, and explore on your own or join a tour. Like the rest of Alaska, there are plenty of adventures to be had here, from zip lining to fishing, as well as charming local shops, breweries and restaurants.

Being the USA’s largest state, there’s a lot to see on an Alaskan holiday. An Alaskan Highlights Tour is a great way of experiencing the best that the state has to offer, from sea kayaking amongst floating glaciers in Valdez to catching glimpses of grizzly bears, dall sheep and wolves while wildlife spotting in Denali National Park. If you want to see even more of America, hop on board the Rocky Mountaineer and combine your trip to Alaska with a rail journey through the Canadian Rockies.
