Lake Tahoe Holidays

Lake Tahoe is America’s largest alpine lake, with breathtaking aqua waters that shimmer in the near-constant sunshine, stretching out for nearly 200 square miles across California and Nevada. Watch as yachts leisurely drift on by, or explore the water and surrounding mountains on a Lake Tahoe holiday.

South Lake Tahoe is a hive of activity, with so much to do. Take a gondola up to Heavenly Mountain and be prepared for the adventure that awaits you at the top. Hit a hiking trail, ski, snowboard, take a zipline down the mountain or simply take in the incredible views. On Lake Tahoe’s West coast, you’ll find the shimmering colours of Emerald Bay set against the breathtaking mountainous backdrop. Explore the clear water by kayak and take a gentle paddle out to the lake’s only island, Fannette Island.

Serenity in North Lake Tahoe

North Lake Tahoe is the perfect place to truly take in the majesty of the landscape. A fitting spot for outdoor enthusiasts, dreamers and lovers, the North shore of the lake is a quieter destination, with more ski resorts, less visitors and a slower pace of life. For some of the best views the lake has to offer, take to the State Lookout Trail and meander along the old forest road up to the site of the old fire lookout tower, crossing the California-Nevada stateline as you go.

Lake Tahoe is the perfect stop to include on a multi-centre holiday. Explore the rest of California, making stops to see the sites in San Francisco and sample wines in Napa and Sonoma. Take the opportunity to discover other states too, or even head further afield and catch some rays in the Caribbean.

Destination Highlights
  • See Emerald Bay State Park, which centres around the National Natural Landmark of the beautiful Emerald Bay
  • Kings Beach State Recreation Area, the largest public beach in North Lake Tahoe and one of the warmest places to swim in the whole lake
  • Take the Balancing Rock Trail at D.L. Bliss State Park, a mile long trail that will take you right past the Balancing Rock
  • Paddle along the stunning Lake Tahoe Water Trail, 72 miles of shoreline that are perfect for paddling

"From South Lake Tahoe, take a short drive round past Zephyr Cove to Cave Rock for a spectacular sunset spot. Take a blanket and some snacks and sit overlooking the lake as the sun disappears for the day. It is incredible."

It has a whole array of impressive and eccentric handmade doughnuts, including Maple Wake N’ Bacon, the Maui Waui and the Blueberry French Toast. The eatery also offers free doughnut delivery, so you don’t even need to venture out of your Lake Tahoe cabin to enjoy the confections.

  • Riva Grill

Riva Grill is a waterfront restaurant on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. There’s an elegant ambiance, making it a great place to enjoy some delicious fresh food whilst you look out over the lake.
