Palm Springs Holidays

An oasis in the middle of the Sonoran desert, Palm Springs is a city full of glamour and retro charm, set against a backdrop of breathtaking mountains. Follow in the footsteps of legendary stars and past American presidents and take in the area’s astounding arid beauty on a Palm Springs holiday.

Known as Hollywood’s playground, there’s a palpable feel of glitz to the city, with its retro architecture and continued history as a retreat for celebrities. Head downtown to the city’s beating heart and you’ll come across the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, honouring those celebrities that have once called the area home. You’ll also find Palm Springs Drive – take a leisurely wander along the road, browsing boutiques and galleries as you go, or stop for a bite of food at one of the many great eateries.

The Natural Wonder of Palm Springs

More than just a glamorous city, a holiday to Palm Springs also offers a bounty of natural wonders. Ride the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway 2.5 miles along Chino Canyon – an awe-inspiring experience in itself – to the Mountain Station 8,516 feet above. Simply take in the mountain views or take to the trails and traverse Mount San Jacinto State Park. Head to Joshua Tree National Park, where the Mojave and Colorado deserts join, and hike through the striking landscape that’s been formed by the meeting of these two ecosystems.

If you want more of the glitz, glamour and southern Californian sunshine, continue on to the nearby cities of Hollywood or San Diego or head further afield. The Palm Springs International Airport also makes it simple to jet to other areas of the United States and Canada – why not take a direct flight to New York or Vancouver?

Palm Springs is an easy destination to get around and even has the PS Buzz Trolley for a fast and free option that runs in a loop along downtown and Palm Canyon Drive. Visit

  • Visit Indian Canyons

The Indian Canyons were once home to the Agua Caliente natives and include three canyons: Murray Canyon, roamed by a herd of wild ponies and peninsula bighorn sheep; Andreas Canyon, dominated by sharp rock formations; and Palm Canyon, with its tall washingtonia palms. Join a jeep tour and see the historic remnants of the Agua Caliente, including house pits, rock art, bedrock mortars, pictographs, and stone houses.

  • The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens

Great for families, The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is a great place to explore and see desert conservation and education of habitats from the Colorado Desert and other deserts around the world. Allow 3-4 hours to see the park and participate in daily activities, but choose your visit wisely, as temperatures around midday could be a little uncomfortable during summer months. Morning visits here will also give you the opportunity to watch some of the animals eating breakfast and exerting a little energy after waking. Take the shuttle from the African Village WaTuTu to the wildlife hospital or join the two-hour riding safari and tour. Visit the Ant Lab to see the busy colony of 2,000 ants or catch sight of giraffes, mountain lions, cheetahs, and wolves in their desert homes.
