Incredible Public Area

Fantastic natural and artistic displays. Unique and fun reflections from the “Bean”. Great family outdoor site with water areas that are both artful and playful. We enjoyed an unexpected afternoon performance of Tchaikovsky. Then walked across the street to one of the many great places to eat.

Good experience

Had a week’s stay at the Fairmont, as the spouse of the conference attendee. This is probably the 15th year of our annual attendance at this conference, but the first year of a stay at the Fairmont. Previous stays have been at the Hilton, Michigan and the Hyatt, Wacker. ROOM: The room at Fairmont far outpaced the rooms at the other hotels because it was much larger than their minuscule rooms. This room appeared to have been re-decorated in the past few years, so no peeling pleather or stained drapery or curtains. Everything was clean. The bathroom is nice, with separate shower and toilet. The only complaints about the room are that the temperature was difficult to regulate (I believe the thermostat was lying to me), and the pillows were lousy, but did not ask for replacements and the quality of the towels could be improved. HOUSEKEEPING: The housekeeping staff were excellent and timely. Some days I stay in to work or read undisturbed and put out the “Privacy” hang tag. I understand that my room will not be serviced, and that is fine, there are always enough towels for that. On one day, though, late in the afternoon, I removed the hang tag thinking the housekeeping staff would be long gone. Very soon a knock came at the door (how did they know?!) which was pleasing. But there stood at the door a young woman who was plainly a member of the staff, but who rather rudely asked if I required service (no, but thank you very much) and she quickly turned away after thrusting two bottles of water at me. I noticed that she was wearing a backpack - water in there or was she on her way to clock out? I must say that I had never seen her before, she was not my usual housekeeper. ROOM SERVICE: My experience with this was excellent. They were very cordial while taking orders, gave a window of time to expect delivery, and were accurate with that. They queried enough to see that the order would be accurate. Delivery was cordial and brief. The food was good. I would not expect 5 star food, it was as I had expected and I enjoyed it. Additionally, they were efficient about retrieving the cart, even calling or knocking to see that it had been removed. FRONT DOOR: Very cordial and helpful, asking if I required directions or cabs. CHECK IN: Efficient and cordial. RESTAURANT AND BAR: No complaints except once had a surly hostess who did not seem pleased that I, a single female, preferred to be seated at a table rather than the bar and by the way, the restaurant was nowhere near half way full. But food server was cheerful and efficient and the food was good. Very good service in the Bar on both visits there. GOLD LOUNGE: Greeted cordially each time I entered (usually three times a day), always anxious to see to my needs without being obtrusive. The food was good, not over the top, but certainly I do not expect that in this setting. I do believe that the wine, spirits and beer are over priced for this setting. The price you pay for the privilege of this service should augment the cost of the alcoholic beverages to some degree. Any questions I had were answered happily, with suggestions from some when prompted and suggestions from one or two when not prompted. Concierge service was excellent from Cody, who was efficient and cordial (not a robot as one reviewer suggested). What services I overheard while there were also kind, friendly and well received.
