Amenities made the trip for my family. Providing chairs and umbrellas at the beach was an extra bonus. Not to mention the fantastic service we received from the staff at South Seas. We enjoyed Captiva and will return.

Mixed bag...

Boston, Massachusetts

Stayed in a 2 Bedroom Beach villa in August 2019. Generally nice trip. Starting with the good: Villas are HUGE and quite nice. I loved the screened in balcony at night. Ordered groceries from the provisions store and they were waiting in my fridge when we arrived. Walked to Starbucks every morning, also walking distance to a couple of other restaurants both on and off site (you have to go to The Bubble Room!). The room had 2 bathrooms which was great and made getting ready a lot easier. The tubs were fine-nothing special. The bad: the villas are REALLY far away from the main part of the hotel. Like 2 miles. So we literally never used the main pool or the pizza/ice cream place or any of the other fun stuff up by the hotel. It is simply too far away. There are pools down at the Villa end but they are your basic back yard pools, towels are not provided and there is no hot tub, no way to order a drink or a snack, and no shade or umbrellas. The villa was advertised as "steps to the beach"...which I guess is true if you mean several hundred steps. It is certainly near the beach but definitely not on the beach. We had a couple of other issues with the room--the toaster didn't work. I let the staff know and they immediately responded and said they would replace the toaster--but they never actually replaced it. The central air conditioning was very so-so. I like to have a nice cool room, especially at night and the temperature never got below 72...which is acceptable but not what I wanted. We went to the spa (right next to Starbucks) and had a lovely spa experience and they had given us a coupon for 10% off so that was good. I am confused about the resort fee--I was certainly aware of it-though thought it was $19/day yet somehow ended up charged $39/day for one adult and one child...I didn't expect children to be charged, though I also don't understand how $19x2=$39...? The housekeeping was also a mixed bag. One day they did not come at all, another day they came and were lovely, and another day they came SO EARLY 8am that I had to send them away because we were still sleeping and they never came back. I think I saw the Engineering guy (trying to look at the AC, checking out some peeling paint (which was odd to do in the middle of our stay when we certainly didn't complain about it) and replace some light bulbs (again odd since I did not request them but DID specifically request a toaster which they did not replace...) more often than I saw the housekeepers... I am not sure if I would stay again--if I did, it would be at the North end and not the south end. The property is really lovely, the island is beautiful... if you want a very quiet beach vacation then this is your place. But if you like to soak in a hot tub or order an umbrella drink by the pool and maybe hear some music playing, this is definitely not the place.
