Highs at the Loews

Stamford, Connecticut

The Loews is simply a difficult option to beat as far as Collins Ave resorts are concerned. We just returned from a 3 night stay and have nearly nothing but positives to report. We found our room to be cool, quiet, and clean. Lobby and facilities were gorgeous, food was good, and staff was generally willing to help. Location near the intersection of Lincoln and Collins is downright perfect. If there is one downside, it's that the pool and beach areas are somewhat overrun with people in the middle of the day, and we weren't informed ahead of time that half the beach would be a construction zone for Superbowl prep.

Miami Beach icon!

Tampa, Florida

As many of you who read our reviews know, we have a very simple test to determine, as a guest, if you simply enjoyed a wonderful experience, or whether the hotel is truly exceptional. Many factors, including luck, can make a hotel visit wonderful . . . once. The test, like a science experiment, is whether or not your wonderful experience can be repeated again and again. The Loews Miami Beach has exceeded our expectations during every visit! Our journey began with a great experience 15 years ago and has remained exceptional, including our most recent visit a couple of weeks ago. This hotel is very special. It began life in 1939 as the iconic St Moritz along Miami Beach. Back in the late 1990’s, Loews added a brand new 17 story tower to the property. And then, a couple of years ago, the entire hotel received a $50 million renovation. So now, it’s essentially a modern new hotel with a direct link reaching back to the golden age of Miami’s classic era. Obviously, the location is superb. The property features a beautiful beach and pool area. That’s why you’re here! Watch the cruise ships coming and going. Relax by the pool with a Pina Colada. I don’t need to remind you of the nightlife possibilities available along nearby South Beach. So that’s the property, or in our opinion, the first half, of a great hotel. But what transforms an outstanding property into an outstanding hotel experience is the team. The staff at this hotel have been outstanding during each of our visits. Check-in to departure, they make this hotel special. Please keep in mind, this is a very unusual property. It’s a premier hotel on the beach in Miami. While it’s an excellent value, you should expect to pay for what you get. If you want a barebones, very budget conscious visit, there are probably more appropriate options. Perhaps Miami isn’t the best destination for you? But if you want a classic Miami Beach experience, this is as good as it gets! Food? It’s Miami. The food is amazing. The food at the hotel is excellent (something I rarely say about hotels.) And, the nearby food options are out of this world! Keep in mind, it’s Miami Beach, playground of the rich and famous. The food is fabulous but it isn’t cheap! And remember, as many of our readers know, even for the budget conscious traveler, there are ways to make a visit to a luxury hotel such as the Loews Miami Beach affordable. For example, the sun and beach are just as pleasant in May, June, and October as they are during the busy peak season winter months. But the rates are more attractive. Also, consider attaching a visit to this hotel with something else. For example, taking a cruise? Arrive a day or two early or stay a day following your cruise. That way there’s no additional airfare involved. Or, maybe you have a trip to Universal and Disney planned? Consider flying into Miami, relaxing for a day or two at this property, and then drive to Orlando. You’ve already budgeted the airfare for the Orlando trip, so the “add on” of a Miami Beach visit is more affordable. Miami Beach isn’t for everyone but if it’s on your bucket list, we strongly recommend a visit to this hotel as the way to do it. We live in Florida, so we’ve visited on vacation with our kids, as a couple for a romantic getaway, and for business. I think you’ll love it; we always have!
