Summer Didn’t Work For Us.

Tucson, Arizona

Having been to the Mauna Kea twice in the winter, and loved it, we decided to go in June just because we enjoyed it so much. That was not a good idea. The hotel is lovely, and we ask for our same room 403 in the beachfront wing. We really like that room and it is very quiet. However we were there two nights and were upgraded to a suite just down the hall, 401. Having peeked into one of the suites on a previous visit, I was excited. We moved our things down there, and I have to say, do not ever book this room. Someone had written a review and said it looked like something out of the Brady Bunch, and I really could not imagine. However they were right. It was very ugly, and must have been original. I guess I overlooked that summer would be bombarded with children. First of all I have no issue with kids, and when we were there before they were so nicely mannered, it was a joy. That was not the case this summer. Barefoot children in the restaurant were walking on the dividing walls, parents couldn’t be bothered, in a nutshell it was a zoo. Sitting on our balcony instead of listening to the ocean at night we only had screaming children running all over. Even the food was subpar and we ate there only two nights. I sincerely hope that this beautiful iconic piece of architecture will not slip downhill as it has always been very special. The beach is beautiful, so please don’t loose what we have always loved about the Mauna Kea.

A Spectacular Property

One of the nicest and best run hotels I have ever seen. We stayed there for our 55th anniversary, and we were blown away with the property and especially the service. Some of the employees have been there since the hotel opened and they are absolute pros. You won't do better than this one!
