The Garden Island
A true slice of paradise, Kauai is Hawaii’s very own ‘Garden Island’ thanks to its sultry rainforest, emerald valleys and sparkling waterfalls. Kauai is the oldest and northernmost island in the Hawaiian chain.
Dotted with golden beaches and hidden coves, lose yourself in this island’s natural splendour; witness the towering peaks along the northern Napali Coast and be taken back to the world of Jurassic Park, when dinosaurs roamed the earth; kayak along Wailua River or take a boat ride to the Fern Grotto. Breathe in the wonderfully warm, tropical air and be at one with Kauai’s dramatic beauty. Some parts of this island are only accessible by sea or air, allowing for the landscapes to keep their untouched, natural beauty. For out-of-this-world views of the island, take a helicopter flight over the Wailua Falls and Waimea Canyon, also called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific' for unbelievable panoramas.
Relax and soak up the suns rays on the South Shore, where you can find perfect beaches around the Poipu area. Look out for the endangered Hawaiian monk seals that sometimes sunbathe on the shores of the golden-crescent of Poipu Beach Park and for a popular photographed spot, head to Spouting Horn and witness a blowhole that releases a spout of water some 20 feet into the air. Over on the East Side, known as the Coconut Coast, you will find Lydgate Beach Park in Wailua; the lava rock enclosed ocean pools which is a perfect place for families and first time snorkellers.
Combine your trip to Kauai with an island-hopping holiday to see more of these Polynesian wonders or stop over in California where you can cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, hit the theme parks in Los Angeles or taste wine in vineyards spread across the region.
