Expectations vs. Deliverables

The Sheraton is a “family” resort. As such, many aspects of life in a hotel are beyond their control. Our expectations conflict with Sheraton’s deliverable. We have been here four times in the past 10 years. The property is well maintained, The rooms clean and adequate. The clientele has gone from staid seniors to active families. We have stayed in building six, deluxe ocean front rooms, because of the tranquility and views of whales. Our neighbor, in a connecting room, has a young child, probably under 4, who has no concept of an indoor voice, nor does the male occupant. On the lanai, the child went bonkers yelling for “dad” to look at an incoming airplane. This is at 6:30 AM. At bedtime the kid has screamed uncontrollably every night while adult voices only get louder.(for 6 days and nights....a significant portion of our vacation.) Then there were the bachelorettes, carrying on At the top of their lungs on the lawn outside our building as I’d no one else was around. To be fair, these are issues over which the hotel has no control. It would be ideal if the families and parties could be separated to designated buildings so that expectations and deliverables mesh. The food is above par; although we refuse to spend $30 per person for a buffet breakfast when cheaper options are available nearby. I’m not sure I can say we got what we paid for, but I say We did not get what We expected — tranquility.

Nice place to relax

Lots of space, clean rooms, friendly people, great location, great whale watching from the beach. Food was good, not great, but I think that's typical for places that are serving hundreds of people at every meal.

One of the most spectacular traditions in Hawaii has to be cliff diving and this hotel is the perfect spot from which to watch. As the sun starts to set, watch as torches are lit and the chosen diver begins their adrenaline-fuelled climb before plummeting from the cliff top and into the ocean in just a few heart-stopping seconds. Best watched from the Black Rock Grill, this is a spectacle not to be missed.
