Luxury Boutique, but is Pricey

Dayton, Ohio

We stayed here 3 nights for a wedding mid -September, so quieter than high season. Property and hotel are gorgeous. Full Cape Cod vibe. Upscale, Historical old building. Ocean view spectacular (we experienced great weather). Food served was delicious. Service attentive. Loved the location- walkable to town of Chatham. *Only negative was the talking and laughing coming from (not sober) guests who were settled in the lobby. The noise easily resonated up the stairs to our room #10 right at top of stairs. It was past midnight. There was no one at the desk, so I had to get up to go ask them to please be quiet or move elsewhere. At $800 per night, you don’t expect to experience such behavior/ noise at that time. Just don’t get room #10.

Living in, and off of, the past

Miami Lakes, Florida

What is not in the past are the prices: actually I'm a bit too embarrassed to cite them. But notwithstanding a very nice recent 5 days, there are shortcomings here that should be remedied, and soon. What was wrong? Most notable, our room. Smelling of ciggy smoke, or something equally foul, the best that could be offered at the first complaint was a can of spray. Continued complaining brought a rug cleaning machine, but no rug replacement, and a visit from management. But by far, the biggest boo-boo is the antiquated bathroom, with a tub shower that would be troublesome in a roadside motel. Probably the original, and almost shameful in what otherwise considers itself a luxury hotel. Other shortcomings: a worn out, too-soft mattress, and unreasonably stained furniture cushions. What was right: the staff, mostly, from the charming waiters and waitresses in the dining rooms, to the cleaning staff, to the numerous valets. Friendly, gracious, attractive, and worth every tip. And the restaurant by the beach, with its lobster nachos, a one-of-a-kind dish that will never be forgotten. If you want luxury on Cape Cod, and can pay (a bit too much) for it, there aren't lots of choices, and this one is probably still the best.
