Nice hotel but you feel ripped off...

London, Canada

Just a quick little review. The actual hotel is amazing super nice, great spot, lots of people and things happening every day. We stayed on floor 56 with city view. Room was great. My main issue is just the value, you feel like you're getting ripped off doing anything in the hotel. A bottle of water in your mini bar is something like $8.00. A drink at the pool was $17.00. I found myself wondering why I chose to stay here. Not to mention you pay a premium for this hotel and then get charged an extra $44 per day in resort fees. Price didn't even include any meals, I assumed there would be free breakfast and discounted food prices because you're staying there, wrong. Pretty much anything you do in this place expect to feel like you're getting ripped off.

Nickel & Diming

The Cosmopolitan has some good things going for it: very friendly, well-trained staff and clean, comfortable rooms and meeting areas. It's not cheap, but I stayed there 3 nights due to a bridge tournament being held there. I realized I was starting to resent the hotel due to "nickel and diming" me. Examples: (1) rooms have no coffee/hot water makers - they want you to order room service if you want coffee or tea. Room service coffee costs $9 (small) or $13 (large). Hey, even budget hotels include a coffee/hot water maker, right? It's just a basic expectation. (2) If you want to order other room service breakfast items, here's a sampling: bagel = $8 … continental breakfast = $28 … 3-egg omelet = $19.50. (3) I brought some tea, and went to the coffee service area outside my conference room to ask for a cup of hot water. Cost = $3. (4) Restaurants inside the Cosmo are quite expensive … expect to pay at least $40-$50 per person. OK, I admit it - I'm old enough to remember when you could get a steak dinner in Vegas for $5 and hotels were cheap... the marketing strategy 25-30 years ago was to offer cheap prices to get customers to stay at their hotel and spend money in their casino. Now everything has rotated 180 degrees … Las Vegas is now over-priced. I don't know what happened, but I no longer view Las Vegas as a relatively inexpensive place to visit and gamble.
