Not impressed

The rooms were fine but we were very shocked with the reaction of the staff when Manhattan suffered a 5 hour blackout on July 13th. There were no emergency lights in the hotel, which I found unbelievable and probably illegal. People were packed in the lobby sitting in the dark on the floor and on the second floor mezzanine. The bar and restaurant, which had seats and couches were not open as staff said they could not open them because of no lighting- however the bar had at least one emergency light. Staff had glow sticks! We were told we could walk up the stairwell and there was not emergency lighting of any sort all the way up to floor 21. That to me seemed extremely dangerous. Friends went across to the Hilton which had everything open and candles around. They sat in the bar and were given free cold soft drinks and well looked after. Quite a difference. I understand that a blackout is nothing anyone would expect but the lack of emergency lighting, the climb in the dark and the ineptitude of staff during this disruption were all very unprofessional. On the other hand people on the street (1000's) and NYC emergency workers were amazing.

Good choice for a base in NY

Goffs Oak, United Kingdom

Have visited NYC a few times but first visit to The Warwick. Forgot to write a review straight after stay but wanted to leave a review to share our positive experience. I was fairly ‘neutral’ on this place on arrival but the hotel grew on me, and my friend, as we got into our 4 night stay. Well run hotel, classical building with some nice features. Bar area always lively and a good place to be. Some hotel bars lack character, this place is great. Excellent central location, decent 4 star in my opinion and room prices are fair. Did not have breakfast. Restaurant looked nice but breakfast prices looked a little expensive, so we ventured out in the mornings, plenty of choice. Brooklyn Diner worth a visit. Will return to the Warwick on my next visit.
