Rough Start! Consider Convenience vs Pricing and Value

Rough start had to do with pricing, and then an absolutely dirty/unclean room. We stayed in the city for 3 nights, left for one night out-of-state, then returned for a final night. Cost and room options for our party were not acceptable for our 3-night stay. We decided to make it work for our final return night. Reservations were pretty easy. Check-in and the door greeter were super kind, quick and painless. After only a few minutes in our room we realized the beds had been made up but the room was filthy! The bathroom and floors were clearly not cleaned and had used soap, wet towels, and debris on the floor. I called for assistance and after receiving an apology, was promised all would be cleaned and sheets changed. Nothing happened for about 30 minutes so I went downstairs to the front desk. I was offered a room change. I was willing to just accept a thorough room cleaning but was encouraged to change rooms. Our replacement room was the same size and configuration but on a higher floor with a different view. An apology was given, but this was done in such a way that I feel my experience is not unique. This is unacceptable. I work in customer service and would have been totally embarrassed and apologetic by such a report from a customer. As an exhausted room of travelers, we accepted the room change and ended up at the bar for most of the rest of the evening. Our server was lovely and attentive. The prices were crazy. I mean, crazy! While we got a "bar/food credit" for the resort fee or whatever hotels are calling it now, the drinks were 50% higher than another lovely quality boutique-style hotel (with delicious drinks, etc) we stayed in during this trip - in the same area. This is frustrating but I can only assume it is a typical eventuality with a large hotel in the theater district of NYC. Otherwise, the room was quiet and comfortable. The bathroom was more spacious than expected. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The bedding felt weighted but I don't believe they actually were - in case a guest is interested in this information. There are two four-elevator banks offering access to only certain floors which proved most helpful.

Very nice

Elgin, Illinois

Great time staying again and the view from the 41st floor is nice. Our view was towards New Jersey and the Hudson River. The beds were comfortable and clean. The room is large and penalty of room for two to move around and not be crowded. The bathroom was roomy and clean too.
