Palomar Philadelphia - a Kimpton Hotel

Art-Deco elegance, inner city location

The Kimpton Palomar Philadelphia is a luxury period hotel situated in the city centre of Philadelphia. Like any Kimpton hotel, this one tells a story and that story is ‘Art in Motion’ – something that is immediately apparent upon arrival. The hotel is set in one of the most striking Art Deco buildings in the city and features a beautiful interior that blends period design with contemporary styling. After its $92 million renovation project in recent years, the hotel has gained ‘green’ status for its contribution to environmental design. There are plenty of refined facilities too including the Square 1682 Restaurant, a modern fitness centre and a hosted evening wine hour in the hotel’s charming living room.

Not quite 4 star level

Toronto, Canada

A nice, architecturally interesting building and great location, but I felt like I was in a hotel trying a bit too hard to save a buck. Also, the room smelled heavily of chlorine, the sheets were too worn looking for such a high-end hotel, and my room (--03) was behind the elevator, which was clearly audible late into the night and early the next morning. Also, while my reservation didn't reflect my IHG elite status, I let the guy at the desk know when I checked in. He made no effort to make sure my rewards number was on the file or that I got my welcome gift.

Great boutique in walkable area

I had a good one night stay in at the Palomar. It had all the typical charm of a Kimpton hotel, including the wine happy hour. A+ service from the staff. Hats off to the front desk and the manager who kept their cool while a guy pitched a 30 minute fit on them not moving his booked price to the rate Hotel Tonight was offering. It was quite disruptive to the hotel, but they handled it with grace that really impressed me.
