Florida and Beyond Suggested Motorhome Itinerary

Explore a little of the USA’s beautiful southern states on this 13 self guided motorhome journey. Start your adventure with five days in Orlando to experience all the fun and excitement of Florida’s theme parks before making your way to the Gold Coast. The first stop on your trip is St. Augustine, the oldest permanent European settlement in North America. Explore some of the city’s historic sites before heading up the coast to Georgia and the beautiful city of Savannah where you can visit The Pirates House, the setting for parts of Robert Louis Stephenson’s Treasure Island. Crossing over to South Carolina you will visit historic Charleston and the seaside resort of Myrtle Beach. Heading west will find you in Lake Lure, North Carolina, this beautiful area was famously used as a filming location for Dirty Dancing. Cross over the boarder to Tennessee and the impressive Smoky Mountains region. Spend a couple of days exploring the stunning national park and the small mountain towns which surround it before heading to the cosmopolitan city of Atlanta with its charming mix of ‘Old South’ heritage and modern industry.

Spend a few days experiencing the fabulous entertainment on offer in Orlando, from exhilarating rides in the world-class theme parks and waterparks to sumptuous dining and fantastic shopping.

Head towards Daytona Beach and perhaps stop to visit the world famous Speedway, then meander up route A1A, Florida's coastal road as you make your way to St Augustine, the oldest permanent European settlement in North America.

Cross into Georgia today and you head up the coast to historic Savannah.You're headed for Red Gate Campground, just 15 minutes from the city and featuring fishing ponds, bird watching, nature trails, horse riding and a salt water swimming pool.
Take time to visit Savannah's historic district and learn more about this charming city.

Head over into South Carolina today as you discover another 'historic city of the old south', Charleston. This is the home of Porgy and Bess and unchanged architecture. It's also home to many historic warships at Patriots' Point Museum, or visit Fort Sumter where the first shots of the civil war were fired.

On your way out of Charleston bound for Myrtle Beach, you should visit one of the much photographed and filmed plantations such as Boone Hall, Middleton Place or Magnolia Plantation.

Myrtle Beach is known worldwide as a great golf destination but there is so much more to this family friendly resort. Visit Broadway at the Beach with its wide array of shopping, dining and entertainment or enjoy the tranquility of the Conway Riverwalk.

A long but rewarding drive west through the countryside of South Carolina. You're bound for the resort area of Lake Lure, in North Carolina, famous for that iconic piece of film, the lake lift in Dirty Dancing. This natural area of scenic beauty gives a lovely end to the day or if you fancy a great view take a trip to the top of Chimney Rock for amazing vistas.

Make some time to visit Asheville and the Biltmore Estate, the largest privately owned home in the USA before crossing over into Tennessee. You are now heading towards the Great Smoky Mountains National Park area, world renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture. No wonder this is America's most visited national park.

Spend the next couple of days enjoying all the great attractions that the Smokies have to offer including scenic trails, nature centres, white-water rafting, Dollywood and Splash Country.

Heading down from the Great Smoky Mountains you will return to Georgia as you make your way over to Stone Mountain Park just outside of the cosmopolitan city of Atlanta. Stone Mountain Park surrounds the world's largest relief carving depicting Confederate leaders Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson and President Jefferson Davis. Extending to 3200 acres of natural beauty, the park offers numerous outdoor adventures including 15 miles of wooded nature trails. Hike the trail to the top of Stone Mountain stretching over a mile or take the cable car to the summit for some fantastic views.
