Extravagant and beautifully appointed

Hudson, Wisconsin

My husband and I thought this hotel was gorgeous- very grandly decorated in the lobby and all public areas. Velvet chairs and couches. Many different chandeliers, marble, etc... just beautiful! The front desk staff was very friendly, and for the most part all staff, went above and beyond to take care of us. When we pulled up the valet staff was nice and we told them we needed to leave right away to attend a game after we got checked in so to please keep our car there. We only paid the $42 valet parking one day- we were disappointed when the next day we called for our car, went down when we said we’d be there, and it wasn’t there. Not only was it not there, but they said we had to go down the block and around the corner where it would be. After doing so, and not finding our car, we had to go back in the hotel and they had to call someone to bring it to us. That was another 20 minutes. The next couple nights we parked across the street in the parking ramp for around $20 a night. It was a 1/2 a block away and we could get it when we wanted. We had to wait a bit for our room to get ready. We had a beautiful room and all was good for the most part, but didn’t expect to not have a refrigerator. We decided to turn a garbage can into a cooler to put some water and a few cans of beer in on ice for when we got back in the evening. We looked around for an ice bucket, but couldn’t find one, so called the front desk. They said when we wanted ice we needed to call and a bellman would bring us a bucketful. Well- in a garbage can, the ice melts quickly, and we also like to drink our water with ice, so we had to call up a couple times a day, which of course means more tipping and waiting up to a half hour sometimes. We often stay in luxury hotels, but the extra fussiness is not something we are into. I am capable of grabbing some ice myself. The rooftop pool was beautiful. We wished we could have swam, but the couple of days we had free without activity were a bit cold for that. Overall this was a lovely stay and I would recommend someone to stay here.

Didn't start off great...

Our room was not available at the time of check-in, but the girl was very friendly and sympathetic. They upgraded our room and allowed us to store our luggage with the bell staff. An hour and a half goes by and our room was still not available. They stated they would place our items in our room and call us once the room was ready. We decided to venture off and enjoy the evening. We never received a call and our items were never placed in our room. We arrived back on property late and the evening manager did apologize and offered us a breakfast credit. Once we arrived in our room, it was clear that they had rushed to clean. There was still trash in the room, the floors had not been vacuumed and the restroom counter had not been wiped down. It was late and decided not to make a big deal of the issue. The property is beautiful and the room was spacious. All the staff members were extremely friendly. The bell staff, front desk, housekeeping and room service. They all really made the stay more enjoyable, despite the bad start.
