Needs more care

For the amount of money that they charge we expected a little more. The room was clean but the ceiling fan was not working. We were told that a maintenance person will be around the next day but never showed up till we checked out. The walk way to our room was flooded the whole time we were there. The first night we walked through the mud as it was too dark to see where it was dry. The horses were beautiful and the ranch hands at the corral were very friendly and helpful. They made it easier to swallow the other aggravations.

Great trip with young kids

ny, ny

We had a planned detour here for a few days (between stops in Houston and Austin) with our 5 year old and 2 year old. We are so happy we went as we loved our stay. Before booking I was bit concerned that our 5 year old wouldn't get enough out of the experience (as he was below the minimum riding age of 6 years old for the horses). But after reading reviews and messaging some other TA folks they all said it would be great, and they were right. Our 5 year old got into each day's planned activity, lesson, show, game, etc. And having the nice big pool always helps! Both boys loved the scheduled Pony rides each day too which I have to say was really key for their experience. As far as the good food, nice lodging, and overall positive experience there are several detailed reviews here which all seem on point, so I'll defer to those... Just note a few things as reminders (even though they are clearly discussed on the website)... 1) If you arrive on a summer Sunday you won't be able to ride that day b/c the horses have the day off... 2) On Mondays they have a no-kids under 13 event dinner in the main dining hall... If your kids are 12 or under they have activities and a separate kids dinner for them out under the big pavilion... you can arrange for a baby sitter if need be, but if that doesn't work for you then you'll be stuck eating true kids fare (pizza rolls, chicken fingers, etc) for that one night - no big deal, just FYI... 3) The riding was very nice, but very slow, and all nose-2-tail (ish)... which was fine for us (My wife and I split the rides so one could stay back with the kids)... 4) Bring water shoes (and perhaps a water tube) and take the quick walk down to the Medina River, just pristine... and 5) Cowgirl Kel is awesome and puts her heart into everything. Overall, this was a wonderful ranch experience for our family. The best compliment I can pass along is that pretty much everyone we met while there had been to the Mayan Ranch before, and most had been several times. They all keep coming back and I hope we get the chance to do so as well.

Music and Dancing

To add to the experience, guests are treated to music and dancing shows throughout the summer season and sometimes in the off-peak season. Look forward to cowboy bands and other musical groups and enjoy a good old line dance.

Horse Riding

As with any good ranch, the Mayan Dude features a range of horses. Ride through the landscape and enjoy the Texan countryside the only way it should be enjoyed – on horseback.

As the ranch is so large and the activities so diverse, it takes a lot of walking to get around from one place to another. Why not instead take advantage of the hayride service to get there faster? Enjoy a traditional ride through the wilderness to the Cowboy Breakfast or maybe head out under the stars and stop by a friendly campfire for a sing-along.

Sports and Activities

Alongside the rides, the pool and the entertainment there are plenty of extra activities to be enjoyed. Why not try fishing, ping pong, tennis, basketball or volleyball in the free time left over during the day?

Swimming Pool

If you want to cool down then take advantage of this Texan-sized swimming pool.
