One mistake after another, ruined my anniversary

Louisville, Kentucky

Had reservations for 2 nights, a gift from a friend. Upon check-in (35 minutes waiting in line) they stated that they only had us down for 1 night, even though I had a receipt of payment for 2 nights. Had to tell us over and over (and over, from the bellman to the manager) again that we shouldn't book through a 3rd party. Said they had to call 3rd party to confirm. We temp parked to check-in and then pulled around to unload and valet, at 7:30pm the valet was already sold out, so had to self-park in no man's land, and beg for bellhop to get our luggage. Once we got into room we realized that they had given us a 2 queen room instead of king room that was reserved, and were told "sorry, we don't have one so you will have to stay in that room. We might be able to move you tomorrow, but no promises". Then my husband went to walk across the room and the carpet was absolutely soaked because the refrigerator was broken and was defrosting all over the floor. They brought towels and spread them on the floor. Just what I expect from a $350 a night room. The next day we spoke with a manager, who was actually very understanding and moved us to the king room and gave us a credit to use at the steak house for dinner that night. Of which I later found out that the restaurant was CLOSED on Sundays, really? You don't know the restaurant is closed? Then when we went to use the credit in stores, were told we were a "cash only" customer because we didn't have a credit card on file. Had to stand in line again to speak to a front desk person to ask if the credit was there, and then beg them to call the restaurant we were able to go to and let them know they could send through the charge so the server wouldn't be penalized. Apparently the credit card I had on file with the first room wasn't moved to the new room and I wasn't asked to put another one on file. Upon checkout, the elevators went down and my husband and the bellhop walked everywhere to try and find one that was working. To top it all off, I just realized that the hotel charged me for 5 resort fees after I had checked out and have my folio here with 1 resort fee on it. I was only there 2 nights and they are now trying to tell me that it is per room, PER PERSON and will only refund 2 of the fees. Nowhere do I see anything about per person and when I called their reservation line they said no, per room. Unless you are flashing your Black American Express card and don't care what is charged, stay far far away. Attention to the details must be impossible with 3000 rooms and it is a glaring problem.

Check your bill!!

Toledo, Ohio

What started out as a 4-5 star vacation was ruined by false charges. When we checked out, the hotel clerk was busy and said he would email us a bill (I had checked the charges earlier, so I was fine with an email). When we arrived home I checked my email and they had charged us for an extra night($592). I suspect that the clerk failed to check us out due to a busy morning; no problem people make mistakes. I called the hotel and got quite the run around-once I finally spoke with someone, they said they would investigate. I received an email a few days later and was shocked that they refused to refund this over-charge. After another frustrating evening of phone calls, I was told that housekeeping claimed room was occupied. I then called a representative from Marriott Bonvoy to see if they could assist. After another week of waiting, they claimed the same response based on hotel’s “investigation”. In the meantime, I had provided copies of charge receipts for gas & food showing we were in another state and proving we were not at hotel. Despite this evidence they refused our refund! If this had been a trivial amount I would have let it go, but at $592, I knew this was unacceptable. Fortunately by making a dispute with the credit card company(Chase Visa), we were able to get a refund, no thanks at all to hotel customer service. I have no issues with hotel stay, other than over-priced and poor customer service on business end. Hotel and staff were otherwise great! Word of advise, do not leave without your check out receipt!!
