Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting

London, United Kingdom

The setting and grounds of this hotel are fabulous- right on the river with views of the spray from the falls and manicured lawns with grazing zebras. It's only a short walk to the falls and you're likely to pass some animals along the way- what an incredible experience being so close to giraffe and zebra (which are normally really skittish in the wild)! The hotel itself is nicely designed in a colonial style. Rooms are on the small side but still very comfortable and had everything we needed. After spending so much money to stay here, I was quite disappointed to find the food and drinks at the hotel quite overpriced. A glass of house wine was as much as I would pay in London and a meal for 2 (with a shared starter, a main course each and a bottle of house wine) came to around £100! Food was nice but not standout. Service was wonderful and we had a very enjoyable stay. A sundowner on the deck by the river is a must do!

Lovely Staff, Lovely Grounds

Minneapolis

Our arrival and check-in were a bit strange. As we arrived, we were greeted by singers and dancers, as we have been at other Anantara properties, then ushered into a lounge where we waited. And waited. And waited. But to be fair, we were given ice tea, and then a couple of times we were offered hand massages. Only later did we realize they were probably decorating the room to honor the occasion for our visit. The room when we got there was small and made to feel even smaller by being stuffed with very large furniture, probably intended to give a feel of the colonial days of David Livingstone. That surprised us because at other Anantara properties we’ve had very large rooms. Wifi is free as long as you join or already are a member of Anantara Discovery. The grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained, and the access to Victoria Falls is wonderful, a walk of about 18 minutes to the entry point. Seeing animals along the way – zebras, baboons, large lizards – is a real treat, as are the animals on the property grounds. We saw zebras and giraffes about as comfortable on the hotel property as the guests were. The staff, every one of them, was lovely, warm, cheerful. Is it worth about $700 a day? Probably, though not for too many days.
